I created this presentation, because I believe, we can improve the quality of product development with Nostromo.
I know you are not a member of this group, but there are thousands of startups and large scale companies around us, and most of them doing the product development emotion based, or gut-feeling and enthusiasm based.
What does it mean? They don’t ask their users, what they need. They make business decisions based on their gut-feelings and needs, and they don’t recognise that their users can have a different mindset or behaviour then they. But one thing is sure, the numbers never lie. If you want make decisions well, do it based on your data, your KPI’s, instead of YOUR needs or ideas. I will show you in this presentation how.
Are we the right team to talk about this?
Yes, we are!
Let’s go through the following facts step by step
Products: We at Digital Natives have been developing products for 10 years. We delivered hundreds of products, and we learned a lot in this period. We have seen many successful and of course many failed products. In the past few years we transformed from ruby developer company to product developer company.
Lean startups: Of course we had our own startups. Mixgar, TaxiLike, Playertise, Mindroom. They were not really successful, but we learned a lot from them.
Agile methodologies: And we believe in agile. We do scrum from the beginning and we use kanban on a daily basis as well. We have a well defined idea about how to manage a product well.
And, let’s see what we have for today. First I will talk about our product development workflow. Then I will talk about the importance of the collaboration and communication, and last but not least about our vision: the data driven product development, and how we plan to achieve it.
In the last few years we faced many problems while managing our products. We tried out dozens of tools, starting from the simplest ones to the complex ones, but we have always miss something. There are really good solutions for one problem, but not for the whole product development. There is a good issue tracker, there is a good time tracking tool, there is a good wire-framing tool, but what we need is all this in one application. And what is really important too, their data, connected in one place.
So with one word the problem is the fragmentation, and we don’t have the product related data in one place.
Finally we made the decision: we need a tool!
I know, all developer company’s nightmare is to develop a task manager tool for themselves. But the main problem we have defined with our previous startups was the deficit of the product domain. But in this domain we have really big experience.
With Nostromo we give a solution to manage a digital product in one place, where we collect all the data related to the product.
Let me show you what we think important in product development:
Our workflow is really simple, and it’s not a new invention. We use the lean circle.
QUESTION: - raise your hand please if you know the lean circle!
- idea validation, wireframing, prototyping, user testing
- developing, user testing
measuring
And we are developing products with this workflow, Nostromo as well, and it works!
There are many roles in the product, and they use different applications
It makes the communication harder and slower, so we created an integrated system, where you can handle all the steps from the previous workflow.
We give a benefit in Nostromo for each role, so I hope everybody will love it.
Let me share with you the most important features | NEXT
Working/planning board
Screen modul
Scope management / epic modul
You have a dashboard
Timesheet
Reporting / KPI
Resource planning
We have a CLI for developers, so they don’t need open the browser in the daily work.
We have a Slack integration, if you don’t know it’s a team collaboration tool.
And we plan to integrate a deployment tool to Nostromo as well, make the developers life easier.
We have a screen modul, where the designer can upload his wireframes and designs or whole workflows and he can discuss it with the team easily.
And we plan to develop a mockup tool, where you can connect your wireframes and make a clickable prototype
resource planner
reporting module where you can get the answer to the following questions
When will it be ready? (scope handling, burndown/burnup charts)
Why is it not ready?
we plan to develop a KPI modul too
And the mission again. I can’t stress enough, how important it is to make decisions based on your products data, and based on your users behaviour.
In marketing we track and optimise all spendings based on data, and how we make decisions in product development? ide példa arra hogy hogyan csináljuk szarul, és erre adunk egy jó eszközt hogy lássuk a hatását egy egy ilyen döntésnek
Data is your product’s KPI (key performance indicator).
Data is everything in your database.
Data is the user behaviour what you can track.
Data is the result of any A-B testing.
‘if we knew what we know’ - how the phrase say
You can use many external services like google analytics, or Mixpanel or Optimizely or you can track things by yourself in your application. For example registration count per day, or successful purchase orders, or every votes on your site, or any user activities.
That’s the hardest question.
We don’t want fight with that external services. We want to collect that information and visualise it on Nostromo.
Epicek milyen hatással vannak a KPI-okra, mennyi idő alatt készülnek el és még egy csomó statisztika
What we have in Nostromo:
we have the well defined product workflow
we have an integrated system where all the roles can collaborate and work together
we have reports, and we plan to visualise the connection between the resolved features/tasks and the KPI’s
I hope I sparked your interest, and you will give a chance to our new tool. Feel free to register in Nostromo, and of course we welcome all feedbacks or any help.
