2. Introduction
• A partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, Luis Li
previously served as chief of the criminal branch of the
Los Angeles city attorney’s office. Currently leading a
practice that works in the areas of civil litigation, white
collar matters, and art law, among others, Luis Li led an
internal investigation of the J. Paul Getty Trust that
ended with successful claim settlements.
Established in 1953, the J. Paul Getty Trust expanded to
its present form from 1976 through 1983, after Getty’s
estate was transferred to the Trust. Today, the Trust
works to promote critical thinking in the conservation,
presentation, and interpretation of the global artistic
legacy through its four component programs.
3. Programs
• -The Getty Conservation Institute. Focused on
furthering the field of visual art conservation with its
wide-ranging education, research, and training services,
the Conservation Institute is currently working on
projects all over the world. Its main offices are based out
of Los Angeles’s Getty Center.
-The Getty Foundation. The trust’s philanthropic
arm, the Getty Foundation supports both institutions
and individuals around the globe, primarily through a
generous grant program. Currently, it focuses on
addressing issues affecting art history, conservation, and
museum circles.
4. Conclusion
• -The Getty Research Institute. Based in Los
Angeles, the Research Institute features special
collections and research libraries. With its collecting
program, institutional collaborations, exhibitions,
and other areas of expertise, it is dedicated to
fostering an exchange of scholarly ideas.
-The J. Paul Getty Museum. With two locations
in California, the museum regularly increases its
collection of art and antiquities and adjusts its
exhibitions, educational activities, and performing
arts programs to better serve the local and
international communities.
