4. Heb 4:1 (NASB)
Therefore, let us fear if, while a
promise remains of entering His rest,
any one of you may seem to have
come short of it.
5. The Great Commission
Mat 28:18-20 NASB And Jesus came up and spoke
to them, saying, "All authority has been given to
Me in heaven and on earth. 19 "Go therefore and
make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy
Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I
commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age."
8. 1Jn 4:7-12 NASB
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and
everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The
one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has
sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might
live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation
for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought
to love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time; if
we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is
perfected in us.

10. Jas 2:15-24 NASB
If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily
food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be
warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is
necessary for their body, what use is that? 17 Even so faith,
if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. 18 But someone
may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me
your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by
my works." 19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the
demons also believe, and shudder. 20 But are you willing to
recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is
useless?
11. Jas 2:15-24 NASB
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when
he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see
that faith was working with his works, and as a result of
the works, faith was perfected; 23 and the Scripture
was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED
GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS
RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God.
24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by
faith alone.
Editor's Notes
Why are we talking about rest? Rest is not the end in itself or the goal. Our objective is to be effective ministers of the gospel, to bring God’s kingdom to earth. The paradox is just that in God’s kingdom the key to greater effectivity is not through greater self effort but is through entering His rest. Pastor Duane Miller’s story illustrates the point.
