3. • Isa 40:12 NASB Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His
hand, And marked off the heavens by the span, And calculated the
dust of the earth by the measure, And weighed the mountains in a
balance And the hills in a pair of scales?
• Ecc 3:1 There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a
time for every event under heaven—
• Acts 17:26 NIV From one man he made all the nations, that they
should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed
times in history and the boundaries of their lands.
MEASURING MATTERS
5. 2Co 10:12-16 NASB (continued)
For we are not overextending ourselves, as if we did not reach to you,
for we were the first to come even as far as you in the gospel of Christ;
not boasting beyond our measure, that is, in other men's labours, but
with the hope that as your faith grows, we will be, within our sphere,
enlarged even more by you, so as to preach the gospel even to the
regions beyond you, and not to boast in what has been accomplished
in the sphere of another.
PAUL UNDERSTOOD THIS
6. • Rom 12:3 NASB For through the grace given to me I say to everyone
among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think;
but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each
a measure of faith.
• Eph 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the
measure of Christ's gift.
WE EACH HAVE A MEASURE
7. THE MEASURE WE USE
Luke 6:37-38 NASB
"Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and
you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned. "Give,
and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good
measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by
your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return."
9. • Psa 103:11-12 NASB For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is
His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the
west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
• Eph 3:16-19 NASB that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that
Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and
grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the
breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which
surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
LOVE BEYOND MEASURE
Editor's Notes
Have you ever thought how much the Bible refers to measuring.
Whether it is measuring time, like during creation, the flood, the exile, right up to Jesus’ time of death, the forty days to Pentecost and even the seven years and the millenium of the end times.
Or measuring dimensions, like the ark, the temple, the new temple in Ezekiel 42,
Because God is dealing with us in a physical universe He measures time and space.
It seems that when God does something He applies quite precise measurements. Even when He works with us He measures our lives.
Parable of the talents
Joh 15:2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.
God allotted for each a space to live in and to serve Him in.
The story is about a prince who becomes a master archer. The prince excels to such a point that he believes he’s the finest archer in the world. On his journey homeward, the prince stops in a small town to get something to drink. Across from the tavern, the prince sees a barn with painted targets along the entire side of the barn. And, there is a single arrow, dead center in every target on the barn. How could such a master archer be living in this small town? Finally, the prince sees this young boy and asks him. “It was me,” says the boy. “Show me,” demands the prince. They stand. The boy takes aim. The boy hits the side of the barn, far away from any of the targets. Then, the boy runs into the barn. He emerges with a brush and a can of paint. He paints a solid circle around the arrow he has just shot, then two more circles to form a target.
God allotted for each a space to live in and to serve Him in. Paul was measuring Himself against the great commission. He was measuring His life by his progress towards the uttermost parts of the earth and especially towards Rome. He was not just ambling along seeing where life takes Him. He was with great focus pursuing God’s purpose.
Php 3:12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
The word measure means “a limited portion” or a part of the whole. The focus is not on that we each only have a little but that we each have a portion but that together we have the full portion. We each have a measure of faith but together have faith without measure.
I need to recognize that I need grace by the bucket load as much as the next person. Judge not does not mean there is no measure or standard, it means don’t measure others by a different measure than you use for yourself.
I need to give with a Godly measure.

Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
We are to grow up in all aspects. We grow into what God has provided for us by His grace.
He needs to enlarge your heart so He can pour in His love. He has measured you and there is not enough space for His love, so He has to strengthen you to carry the load of His love. You are a one ton bakkie but His love is 10 ton plus. You and I need to shaped by His measurements. Let Him measure you land taylor make you for his purposes.
