1. I. When accessing database information you must be diligent in ensuring the quality of
the work. You can actually receive good quality information from non-scholarly websites, as
long as you make sure the source is credible. One way to ensure the information is accurate is
triangulation. This process requires you to have the data from three different sources and making
sure they all say the same thing. Believe it or not after you have triangulated the data it is now
recommended to also wait 24 hours after the information has been released to ensure the
reliability. You can use both scholarly and non- scholarly information when researching a topic
you are assigned or curious about. One of many issues you may run into with using the non-
scholarly is the data may not be the most accurate, which means you will receive a lower grade
for the work. Something that is even worse than receiving a bad grade is you will be releasing
incorrect data from incorrect data and this cycle will continue. Even though someone can release
nonfactual information, it is very important to check the credibility of the source. A way you can
break this cycle is using scholarly information. This means the information has been completed
and reviewed by someone with proper experience and education in the area the data is
concerned. You can easily lookup the background information of the person or group releasing
the data to make sure it is indeed for knowledge and not entertainment.
II. from the MU library Points of view. The recent years downloading music has changed in
last years; RIAA had the successful experience against to the duplication by taking the peer-to-
peer networks. Moreover, the protected-CD set up, which played on the limited player. The other
industry is Apple ITUNE to help supervise the music downloading; then user don't need to buy
the entire album, but they still can have the music, which is an allowance for the user. Some
music industry and individual artist use the personal website to encourage people to download; in
order to increase the reputation and the awareness. The providing music is getting faster and
2. quicker than before. According to the laws and the illegal music, Stop Online Piracy Act combat
the trafficking online music and other copyrighted content, and law accomplish the strict control
of the control. The law helps the current music rule and online regulation which can stop the
search stop linking to other links. Preventing the real online theft to help the music regulation is
similar to SOPA. Both of SOPA and PIPA respond the recent strict regulation and control to the
copyrighted music. In conclusion, the downloading music’s recent copyright is getting the highly
pressure to control. The increasing company and institute join the copyright’s crusade; and the
music downloading obtain the healthy development. (Lee, 2015)
III. Mrs. Sarah Pagoda, is a woman in her eighties were brought to a court under Music
Publishers Protective Association for selling an illegal copy of song hits. Her act was seen to be
damaging publishers a huge amount of profit. Under the New York State Legislature, Pagoda has
been charged as guilty and was arrested in which soon after she was released due to lack of
sufficient evidence.
Ever since the early production of music, the publicity of music has been a highly debated issue
and in today’s world, music piracy has entered a whole new level where pirated music can be
done with a single mouse click. In his book, pop song piracy: disobedient music distribution
since 1929, Barry Krefeld discusses in detail the many efforts in fighting music piracy over the
years. He started off by describing how each music pieces are being plagiarized in different
music era followed by the different attempts done to minimize and exterminate the effect of the
plagiarism itself. Krefeld then, analyze what Krefeld identify as “unauthorized music
distribution”, to grasp the reason behind the never-ending copyright infringement. Barry Krefeld
has a earned a doctorate in Philosophy in 1981 and has a deep understanding in the music
3. publication. His bachelor degree in musicologist and jazz saxophonist would be of much help to
him in writing this book. Other than this book, he has written six other books on music. Krefeld’s
immersion to the music has let him experience the changes in the music industry over the years.
The book “Disobedient music distribution since 1929" was released through the University of
Chicago Press, one of the major university presses in the United States. This means that
Krefeld’s work was reviewed for its accuracy and value by the panel before it was being
published to the public. The book was published four years ago in which he cited most his facts
based on court records and government publications ranging from the early 1930 to late 2000
which would prove useful in providing a more neutral view.
Krefeld’s intention on writing this book was to inform the readers that even though music piracy
can be done in such effortless way, it was not entirely our fault, but in fact, it’s the lack of
original ideas coming from the music industries themselves. Even then pirating music has never
been accepted in the society and it has been a long battle between the music industries and the
society who tries to breach this copyright. In his book, he presented the various ways in which
the music pieces’ copyright is being maintained to show the audience his discontentment towards
unauthorized music distribution and regarded them as unlawful and a violation. He came up with
many theories and ideas backed with actual evidence brought up during court martial ground
where the information are readily available on Records Administration. His experience with
music and testimony he used throughout the book is a proof of his detailed analysis on the
subject based on conclusion over years of work. The author should have been proud on this book
for the book has won the “Association for Recorded Sound Collections Award for Excellence.”

IV. Music piracy has been one of the greatest problem that hinders the development in
music industries. Piracy cut downs revenue made by each music industry which in turn lower the
initiative of the music developers to release something original and innovative. In the era of
World Wide Web, software encryption and digital printing has been done to improve the security
of the works itself. Studies has been made to evaluate reactions by the people after being
exposed to illegal music downloading behaviors. In overall, a significant number of people
shows a positive reaction when introduced to anti-music piracy campaign in which they respond
better by purchasing and promoting paid online services.
The four authors of this journals were faculty members of the Department of Communication
from State University of New York at Buffalo, USA. The book was published by Elsevier
Company that manages around 2200 journals per year. The book will have to go through a panel
in which the information inside the book were analyzed and checked for its content.
In the Journal of Applied Development Psychology Volume 33, Issue 1, January-Febuary2012,
Pages 31-39: College students’ moral evaluations of illegal music downloading, a group of
college students were tested in their implications of illegal download in their moral judgment in
their daily lives. Websites such as The Pirate Bay were used to estimate the frequency of their
download to estimate how extensive file-sharing piracy has been going on. Ninety percent of the
students under experimentation have complained that the price of the music itself are
unreasonably high however, only five percent thinks they should be provided free. Three
separates tests of varying major recipients of the profit were done to analyze the different type of
reaction given by the students. A direct relationship can also be seen where illegal activity done
5. through the internet such as file-sharing has a correlation with juvenile activity done by the
students itself.
The author, Marc M. Jamb on is a faculty member of the Department of Clinical and Social
Sciences in Psychology, University of Rochester, USA who has made eight publications under
his name on the studies of the psychological being of people at a certain age and exposed to a
specific environment. Since the author wrote his report based on his observation, we can assume
that his judgment and conclusion were neutral to maintain the credibility of his work. Not only
that, his work has been reviewed and updated before it was published in the year 2012. From his
work, we can easily identify the percentage of tests and experiments done as they were presented
in bar graph system so as to easily correlate between one experimental tests with the others.

V. Libraries has highly impacted my research methods. Instead of paying for a database,
or even paying to rent a book, you can go straight to this website and have fast and top rated
information. Until now I had no idea of how much incorrect information is produced for nothing
but entertainment. The main issue with using one of the standard database search engine, such as
google, is you have to take significant time out of your already busy schedule to check the
creditability of the source. One procedure to confirm the integrity of the data you are using is to
triangulate the sources. This process does impose on your schedule due to the fact it is best to
6. wait 24 hours after the information has been released. In the past I would also have gone to a
local library where I would have not only paid for just the material I was interested in, but also
invest my money in the transportation there and back, and pay for a membership. With Libraries
as long you are associated with the university, such as a professor or student, you can access
their information for free. Due to the credibility of the information you will defiantly save time
on monitoring the sources. The reason all the information in the database is so accurate is they
have already been reviewed. Believe it or not there are still more positive outcomes in using this
website. A big factor in your grade is the relevance of the person who created the information
you are searching, and how they are related to the topic. For example, you will more than likely
write an accurate paper using information from a professor with a Ph. D in the area of interest
you are studying. Likewise, if you cite the same information from a teenager in the 1980’s the
quality of your final draft will not be as accurate resulting in a lower score. Honestly since we
have been better educated in information literacy I am very scared. As an American I love the
freedoms we have and respect the brave men and women who have sacrificed their time and
lives for these freedoms. On the other hand the fact someone can claim they are a professional in
a career field, completed different studies, and publish a book puzzles me. Another major issue
with these false data is without researching the credibility the information looks almost identical
to the factual information. Just now knowing how to access Libraries really makes me questions
the integrity of all of the previous studies I have completed, and the teaching strategies of all of
my former teachers. A positive outcome is that with each class that is taught this process to
access this database is hopefully we came spread our knowledge to the rest of the world,
especially with how diverse our class’s background is. Overall someone who uses Libraries will
save multiple assets so they can spend even more time expanding their mind and the world.
