5. Blood Sweat & T-Shirts
Under what conditions are
t-shirts on the UK high street
produced abroad?
Primark is one of the shops which are in the headlines of
how they treat and how much they pay their workers. Their
workers are from india and are very young works who
spend their days there and will go to school. The children
only get paid pennys a day. Their clothes are so cheap as
they do’nt need to pay a lot of their workers to make
them. People wont stop buying from Primark or any other
shops like it as its so cheap and the credit crunch is
happening so people need cheeper places to shop.
6. Stencil & Silkscreens
How did these techniques develop?
what are their benefits & problems?
Using a stencil gives a better shape then doing it from free hand,
trying out one stencil is always best as you learn about bridges and
how easy/hard some ideas are. Silkscreen gives a smooth finish to
the paint, no brush marks will be on the t-shirt and make it look
like it is printed. If the stencil is not put down flat enough the paint
will ‘bleed’ when using the squeegee to apply the paint. If you have a
dark background, colours such as yellow and white will not appear
very well and will look very weird.
7. Campaign T-Shirts
What campaign produce t-shirt?
Almost all types of campaigns produce t-shirts, especially
ones which would help every day people, such as the
Cancer research have produce many types of t-shirts and
other merchandise such as wristbands and badges.
How do they target 16-19
year olds?
They make them fun and interesting to look at
with bright colours and bold designs. They
make the campaigns interesting for that age
range and not try to do something for dental
care or things such as insurance which they
would not be interested in.
