Battle of the Books News
We had a very busy week of reading. Students in grades K-2 had their School & District wide Battle of
the Books events. The District competitions were via VTC with Sand Point, King Cove and Cold Bay.
Our kids were shining like little stars in the bright sky. The kids loved to see themselves and each
other on the TV monitor. Getting to see that other kids were doing something they were doing
seemed to make them all proud and happy. Their efforts will be awarded with ribbons at our May
12th reading celebration.

The school battles took place in the library after a big spring storm. All the kids from grades K-2
were participating in the event with the help of Kells Hetherington and Mary Olsen as judges.
Jeremiah, Chloe, Jill, Dantezza, Madison, Coral, and Marissa were also great helpers as recorders
and time keepers. They were like veteran battlers on the field. They did a great job helping,
guiding, encouraging all the young first time battlers.

We had three teams miss only one question out of 20. Those teams were the Eagles: Logan, Krystal,
Tristin, and Devin, the Superstars: Edmond, Jesse, Alena, Latasha, and Lindsey, and the Sonics:
Taylor, Ashton, Emily, and Kyla. Team Cheetahs: Arlin, Cameron, Joshua, and Emmanuel had
missed only two questions out of the 20. They were great battles.

Team 1: Acey, Eliana, Faith, and Parker and Team 2: Paige, Isabella, Alexia, and Steven also did a
fine job of speaking up and working together.

Thank you to everyone for your help and support of the Battle of the Books.

Students in grades K-2 had their School & District wide Battle of the Books events. The District competitions were via VTC with Sand Point, King Cove and Cold Bay. Our kids were shining like little stars in the bright sky. The kids loved to see themselves and each other on the TV monitor. Getting to see that other kids were doing something they were doing seemed to make them all proud and happy. Their efforts will be awarded with ribbons at our May 12th reading celebration. The school battles took place in the library after a big spring storm. All the kids from grades K-2 were participating in the event with the help of Kells Hetherington and Mary Olsen as judges. Jeremiah, Chloe, Jill, Dantezza, Madison, Coral, and Marissa were also great helpers as recorders and time keepers. They were like veteran battlers on the field. They did a great job helping, guiding, encouraging all the young first time battlers. We had three teams miss only one question out of 20. Those teams were the Eagles: Logan, Krystal, Tristin, and Devin, the Superstars: Edmond, Jesse, Alena, Latasha, and Lindsey, and the Sonics: Taylor, Ashton, Emily, and Kyla. Team Cheetahs: Arlin, Cameron, Joshua, and Emmanuel had missed only two questions out of the 20. They were great battles. Team 1: Acey, Eliana, Faith, and Parker and Team 2: Paige, Isabella, Alexia, and Steven also did a fine job of speaking up and working together. Thank you to everyone for your help and support of the Battle of the Books.
