Everyone: Good morning Miss Green.
Miss Green: I am going to mark the register now and so you must all be quiet.
(Juliette puts her hand up.)
Miss Green: Not now, Juliette. Put your hand down. I have to mark the register.
Juliette: But, Miss Green!
Miss Green: Be quiet Juliette! David Smith.
David: Present, Miss.
Miss Green: Micky Mosby
Micky: Present, Miss.
Miss Green: Juliette Langton.
Juliette: Present Miss. Miss, Miss, can I speak? Please Miss!
Miss Green: No Juliette! You cannot go to the toilet. I am not excusing anybody.
Juliette: That’s not it, Miss.
Miss Green: OK, what is the matter?
Juliette: There’s a mouse under your desk.
Everyone: Yikes! Look, it’s a mouse!
Jack: Look at the size of it! That’s not a mouse, it’s a rat!
Miss Green: Settle down everybody. There is no mouse in my classroom! (Then she sees the mouse)
Aaargghh! Help! There’s a mouse under my desk! (She stands on her chair.)
Abigail: No, there it is! Now it’s on your desk, Miss!
Kim: No, now it’s in front of the computer!
Arturs: No, now it’s behind the plant on the window sill!
Kim: It’s a fast mouse! Now it’s behind the filing cabinet!
Milania: Aarghh! It’s in my school bag!
Sofia: It’s out of your school bag and now it’s sitting on the empty chair here beside me!
Simon: Yikes, it’s between my feet!
(The students mess about.The classroom door opens and Mrs Jackson the head comes in.)
Mrs Jackson: Miss Green! Why are you standing on your chair! Look at your class! What a terrible
bunch of students. Miss Green, please get down at once!
(Mrs Jackson sees the problem. She gets a box. The mouse is in the corner. She catches the
mouse in the box.)
Mrs Jackson: What a sweet little mousey! Now, class, stop messing about! Sit down and open your
reading books! Miss Green, go to the staffroom and have a nice cup of tea. I will take your register
this morning.
(Mustafa puts his hand up.)
Mrs Jackson: Yes, Mustafa?
Mustafa: There’s a cat on the filing cabinet, Miss.
Arturs: And there’s a dog under my desk!
Mrs Jackson: Good heavens, is this a school or a zoo? It’s a good job I like animals, isn’t it!?
