Our favourite photos from our New Zealand walking tour in January 2014. Thirteen day fully guided small group tour through Southwest World Heritage Area. We walked on the Milford, Routeburn and Hollyford Tracks plus in Arthur's Pass and Mt Cook National Parks. As well as the great hiking the tour includes iconic activities like the TranzAlpine, Fiordland helicopter flight, backcountry jetboat and an overnight lodge stay in remote Fiordland National Park. The guide was Andrew Wells from New Zealand Trails.

Tucked away as a jewel piece in the pristine Aravalli ranges that crown our beautiful Gujarat state, lies a bounty of natural bliss, all waiting to be explored, Tikhimagari forest. About 14 km long, the Gova hill, popularly known as the ‘Vireshwar Hill’, stands towering the lush green woods. Close by are ancient ruins of Derol, witness to the erstwhile Jain( Humad Community) settlement. The dry deciduous open forest a home of 126 birds, 12 species of mammals, many colourful insect and reptile species; which is an accessible vicinity of 150 km from Ahmedabad, beckons you to fall in charm with nature. Mother Nature, in her best form awaits you to offer an experience that is surely mesmerizing. Come, get drenched in nature’s own showers of love and warmth. This is a kind of a home stay and eco-tourism site.

As defined by the International Ecotourism Society, ecotourism refers to “responsible travel that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people”. Also called “nature tourism”, the objective of ecotourism is to minimize the impact brought about by tourism on the environment. What is eco tourism in simple words? The World Tourism Organisation defines ecotourism as: all nature-based forms of tourism in which the main motivation of the tourists is the observation and appreciation of nature as well as the traditional cultures prevailing in natural areas. Ecotourism is responsible travel that assists in conserving the environment and improving the well-being of locals through economic support. With the amount of tourists expanding every year, it's more important than ever to promote sustainability.Positive impact of ecotourism on the environment Ecotourism can reduce the need to hunt animals for income. With ecotourism, income is earned from preserving the rainforest - deforestation is discouraged, as it is detrimental to income from tourists. Money from tourists goes back into the conservation of the area.Tourist facilities are made to blend-in with the natural environment, food is sourced locally and waste is usually managed on-site. The numbers of tourists allowed are low to ensure minimal disturbance to the environment, but this increases the cost of trips for visitors. The main concept of ecotourism is sustainability to enable future generations to experience places which have been relatively untouched by humans. Ecotourism is quickly becoming an important industry for many developing countries to bring in foreign income while at the same time, preserving some of their most fragile environments. This can be achieved by some countries preserving their rainforests, as ecotourists pay to see a country's natural beauty, not the destruction caused by the exploitation of natural resources. Ecotourism activities should: Cause minimal impact on the environment and local people. Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect. Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts. Provide direct financial benefits for conservation and sustainability. Provide economic benefits and empower local people, as ecotourism should be managed by locals. Increase visitors' understanding of the country's political, environmental and social circumstances. Encourage stewardship and conservation of the natural environment. Respect local traditions, eg dressing appropriately so as not to cause offence, especially in religious buildings. Causes of/reasons for ecotourism Developing countries now want to conserve their fragile environments and view ecotourism as a significant method of generating income. Developed countries want to help developing countries conserve their fragile environments by promoting sustainable tourism. Tourists want to experience a visit to unspoilt environments. Many travellers are bored with run-of-the-mill too

I recently retrieved this article earlier published in the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) News in June 2011. Unregulated bush burning is still a major challenge globally, nationally and locally. It’s associated with destruction and loss. In this article the experiences of unregulated bush burning, particularly in West Nile and Northern Uganda is presented and discussed while suggesting some practical recommendations to deal with the issue.

According to the international eco-tourism society (TIES), eco-tourism is ‘Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people’. Nature based element, Education or learning component and Requirement of sustainability are the criteria of eco-tourism. In Sri Lanka, tourism is majorly based on beaches, archaeological sites and on large mammals like Panthera pardus kotiya and Elephas maximus maximus. Diverting tourism of Sri Lanka towards wilderness in the inside the country is an essential requirement in present. The concept of Eco-tourism based activities in the Sinharaja forest reserve was initiated by the USAID and the tourism cluster (TTC) in the early 2000. Rainforest Eco Lodge is the final outcome of this concept. The eco lodge established in the middle of Enasalwatte tea estate which is located in the south eastern border of UNESCO world heritage Sinharaja Forest Reserve. The construction of the eco lodge was started in 2009 after a series of protests opposing the project. However the constructions were finished in late 2011 and the eco lodge started its operations in 2012. The rainforest eco lodge is an accommodation and eco-tour provider. It mainly targets on the tourists from Europe. When comparing the eco lodge against the six principles of eco-tourism the drawbacks and the strengths of the project can be found out. Minimization of the impact on the environment when constructing the eco lodge is in a high standard. Used shipping containers, used railway sleepers and bamboo walling were used as the materials. Renewable energy sources such as solar power is using in the site. Storm water is stored and used for the sewage systems. Community development is also done by the eco lodge management. But the conservation activities are not sufficient as it is located in an environmentally sensitive area. Visitors are satisfied with the service providing by the staff. Nature walks, trekking and bird watching activities are conducted by the professional naturalists in house. Increased focus on the conservation, increasing the hygienic and safety measures by preventing mosquitos and mice naturally from the site and improving the educational facilities can be recommended. The government should monitor the eco-tourism service providers and their activities in order to provide sustainable and ‘Eco-friendly’ eco-tourism services for the visitors.

Wizards are very useful for creating a good user experience. In all businesses, interactive sessions are most beneficial. To improve the user experience, wizards in Odoo provide an interactive session. For creating wizards, we can use transient models or abstract models. This gives features of a model class except the data storing. Transient and abstract models have permanent database persistence. For them, database tables are made, and the records in such tables are kept until they are specifically erased.
