During the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, when the coronavirus was first declared a threat, fear arose in much of the population. Aside from the fear of contracting the virus, many people also worried about the crisis negatively affecting their day to day lives. One such situation that has come to pass for many is unemployment as a result of the quarantine. The World Health Organization encouraged people to pay increased attention to both their physical and mental health, since the sudden adjustments could create a significant impact on a person's health. In mid-July of 2020, the KFF Tracking poll reported that 53 percent of adults in the United States reported suffering negative impacts from the crisis, particularly as a result of stress. Sleeping and eating difficulties represent the majority of reported symptoms. People with chronic conditions generally suffered worsened states due to worry. There has also been a notable increase in alcohol consumption and substance use.
