Pokok ini juga digunakan dalam perubatan tradisi Cina.
This is an annual herbacious plant. It is a valuable vegetable that can be cultivated from either seeds or
cuttings. The plant is a climber and can be grown on fences. It is also used in traditional Chinese
medicine.

According to the book Chinese Medicinal Herbs of Hong Kong, Volume 6; Page 122, it is anti
inflammatory and is an intestinal lubrican. It is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Six of the medical uses listed are:-
1. Appendicitis, dysentery.
2. Constipation, melena.
3. Cystitis, scanty urine.
4. Joint pain and swelling.
5. Eczema.
6. External use in fracture, traumatic injury, wound bleeding, burns, scalds, furuncles, carbuncles.
Medicinal Plants of Thailand uses the fresh leaf tropically for ringworm. Flower tropically used for tinea
versicolor. Root as a laxative, externally used for treatment of skin discolouration of hand and foot,
antidendraff.
