the following: The meat processing businesses were characterized in two aspects: the
3. owner and the business. On the part of the owner, most of the meat processors were
college graduates, which means that they were educated and possessed the experience
in the meat processing business. Most of the meat processing business in Baguio City
had been in this kind of business for a long time with necessary present capital and
with the required manpower. The production, marketing, and other problems
experienced by the meat processing business are seldom encountered, and these
problems were able handled by the meat processors. With respect to the relationship
in the characteristics of the owner with production, marketing and other problems

to the relationship of the business establishment which were length of business
operation, present capital and manpower requirement, there was a significant
relationship with production, marketing and other problems. In the overall analysis, it
was found out that lack of storage facilities, lacks of advertising and promotion, strict

Recommendations: In view of the present findings of the study, the
researcher formulated the following recommendations:
1. Future entrepreneurs who would like to engage in meat processing
business, need to pursue higher studies related to business management. Through
continuing education, they will be more well informed of and better exposed to
marketing strategies that suit the products they offer. Particularly, they should give
more focus to the means of advertising and promoting their products.
2. Existing meat processors, who intend to expand their business,
should first conduct a careful study on particular areas like advertising and promotion
activities, including the determination of an appropriate pricing scheme before
venturing in view product lines. It is further suggested that, to implement a more
effective product introduction, trial runs with limited production volume should be
conducted. Furthermore, to be more competitive, detailed and careful analysis on the
market performance of their product line must be conducted. In line with this, a
complete record of the production and sales of each product line should be
maintained for proper monitoring purposes. These records will help them to analyze
and come up with more appropriate advertising and promotional schemes for each
product lines. More importantly, problems concerning the distribution of their
products should be scrutinized. Along this area, they should look into the possibility
of conducting direct selling activities to different sales outlet, like: canteen,
restaurant, grocery stores, and supermarket. Finally, it is highly recommended that
they try distributing through individual agents or entrepreneurs with corresponding
offers for discounts.
3. Since manpower requirement and marketing problems were
directly and positively correlated, it is highly recommended that meat processors
should engage the service of appropriate people with necessary skill, especially those
with marketing background.
4. 4. Due to a very high correlation between present capital and
marketing problems the different meat processors in Baguio City ought to increase
their present capital. With the increase in their capital, meat processors will not only
be able to sustain, maintain and most of all expand their production operations but
also minimize if not overcome most problems that beset them.
5. To procure additional capital for the meat processing business, the
meat processors can utilize the financial assistance provided by the various financial
institutions, like for instance commercial and universal banks providing loans to
small-scale entrepreneurs here in City of Baguio. In addition, they can also seek
financial assistance from the following agencies:
a. The Department Trade and Industry which can help in the sourcing
of funds for small scale enterprise. Specifically, the SMED Council (Small and
Medium Enterprise Development). Council of the Department of Trade and Industry
can help coordinate and integrate various government and private sector activities to
assist small and medium enterprises in their promotion, growth and development.
b. The SLU-ISSEF (Saint Louis University-Institute for Small Scale
Enterprises’ Foundation) which provides financial and marketing assistance to small
entrepreneurs.
c. Other private lending institutions in the city aside from banking
institutions.
6. Future entrepreneurs, who desire to engage in the meat processing
business, ought to have sufficient capital for production operations, marketing and
other activities related to the successful operations of the enterprise.
7. A related study be conducted parallel to this investigation. Future
researchers can penetrate areas such as procurement and allocation of funds by the
meat processing business as well as some other characteristics of the meat processors
themselves and of the business, like age, sex, market and organizational structures.
Methods and procedures of meat preservation could likewise be an interesting area.
