The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

C++ is an enhanced and extended version of C programming language, developed by Bjarne Stroustrup in 1979 as part of his Ph.D. project. Bjarne developed what he called ‘C with Classes’ (later renamed C++) because he felt limited by the existing programming languages that were not ideal for large scale projects. He used C to build what he wanted because C was already a general-purpose language that was efficient and fast in its operations.

watercolors depict land, air and water creatures, together with an obstinacy of buffalo, an unkindness of ravens as

skeins of geese, or why swirling hawks counsel boiling h2o inside of a kettle. I am able to just hear him shouting to
his husband or wife and daughters that “We've a bellowing of bullfinches about the chook feeder, fast!” This is a

$34.95), the Judds make the situation that these tales offer a lot in excess of an escape from truth. Instead, they’re
intended to possess an effect on “how we talk to other people currently and with the complete entire world in
which we Are living — such as the landscapes of our purely organic all-natural environment.”
What follows is admittedly an exhaustive accounting from the trees, shrubs, herbs and in addition other
vegetation in Tolkien’s Middle-earth — the crops of our setting and other people, very like the White Trees of
Gondor, within the elven ecosystem. Tolkien was a author who confessed to staying “Substantially in love with
vegetation and above all trees”; the Judds Be aware that vegetation look on nearly Every and each Internet site
webpage of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord during the Rings.” I uncovered myself transported by their discussion of
“plant communities, as altered by hobbits, people today, elves or angelic beings.” Those people Hobbits wound up

When using the younger Ent known as Quickbeam, who considers trees for being “great good friends with
wonderful and sensitive voices.” This quantity, with its handsome and haunting woodcuts, is easiest appreciated in
compact doses. It’s heady things, rather concentrated. However it made me blow the dust off my duplicate of “The
Silmarillion” and include it to my stash of Winter season period studying as a result of.

In many years earlier, Robert Llewellyn has blown our minds While utilizing the indelibly comprehensive pictures in
“Observing Trees,” “Observing Bouquets” and “Observing Seeds.” Throughout the Residing FOREST: A visible
Journey Into your guts within the Woods (Timber, $forty), he has teamed up with Joan Maloof, the founder and
director of one's Aged-Development Forest Community, to find out from the secret and magic of our woodlands.
A lot also frequently, we consider without any consideration what their preface phone calls the “skinny and
delightful membrane” that's our biosphere.
Llewellyn and Maloof flip our gazes up into your forest Go over, wherever we discover tasteful herons and snazzy
bluebirds in flight. We peer in the eyes of eagles, that will see for miles, and surprise, combined with the authors,
regardless of irrespective of whether trees are delicate to starlight. As Llewellyn and Maloof remind us, trees are
“the lungs from the land,” and therefore they’ve been woefully underappreciated; they’re the very best mechanism
We all know of to suck up the pollution that’s warming your complete Earth.
Llewellyn also reminds us within the sheer magnificence of our surroundings as he catches the fetal curl of a leaf in
midfall. Among the most alluring of his illustrations or photographs could well be the golden portraits of larval
salamanders. But there’s not in excess of adequate in this article about insects: I hope that may be viewed as a
future challenge, a single which’s sorely wished-for. We aren’t executing Just about much more than enough to
safeguard our fellow creatures, if rooted or roaming. And we are unsuccessful to take action at our personalized

THE TREES OF NORTH The us (Abbeville, $forty nine.ninety 5) alternatives, for The 1st time in only one quantity,
the botanical engravings of André and François-André Michaux, together with other treasures held during the

acorns with the cork oak or the shaggy floor area with the Bristlecone fir.
And who, who, who's all around in the forests with us following we linger previously dusk? The owls, By natural
means. For various several years, I’ve been endeavoring to proven eyes around the owls with the trees close to my
dwelling, to no avail. Great horned duets wake me away from a audio relaxation. Sometimes I'm in the position
to’t resist tipping my head back all over again and signing up for throughout the phone calls. Even so the owls
keep on staying elusive.
So thanks, David Tipling, for the sumptuous, endearing and terrifying illustrations or photos of these uncanny
creatures through the ENIGMA Within the OWL: An Illustrated Organic Historical earlier (Yale University, $forty).
And Mike Unwin’s authoritative descriptions on the owl way of existence are interesting. When not hunting
(snakes, frogs and voles keep from their beaks), they preen adorably, peer from nest holes with the trunks of trees
or plunge as a result of snow in pursuit of prey. They have these amazing round faces, with disks with regards to
their eyes that perform like satellite dishes to seize and direct an astonishing number of feel for his or her ears.
And other people eyes! The golden orbs under the furrowed brow of The nice horned owl are mesmerizing. If I
could, I’d fly absent using a parliament of owls.

every autumn, I haunt regional orchards, eager to determine bushels of my incredibly individual. And yearly offers
further types, so I’m gonna go on to keep a duplicate of APPLES (Countryman, $18.ninety five), by Roger Yepsen,
in my glove compartment becoming a reference. His excellent watercolors are plenty of to bring about any
personal’s munchies. In these webpages, we discover the Macoun “just doesn’t sing if picked just in advance of …
late September or Oct” Which Pink Lady gained’t change to mush inside of a pie. Yepsen warns that more
substantial apples mature way more instantly, Hence if you select for them for the grocery store their firmness and
texture usually tend to be “on how out.” And he promises never to trouble Using the “corky” brown texture about
the pores and skin of specified kinds simply because “russets are generally spicier and even have considerably
more character when compared to the frequent apple.”
You on no account know what is going to give an individual a hankering to back again back garden. Just one
young guy of my acquaintance, who doesn’t very similar to to receive Filth underneath his fingernails, is becoming
enamored of succulents. And it appears that evidently they’re the chic vegetation of the look earth proper this
second. The primly tasteful PRICK (Mitchell Beazley, $19.ninety nine), by Gynelle Leon, provides useful information
on choosing, styling and caring for cactuses and succulents — Along with the emphasis on styling. Every and each
plant With this particular primer is shown nested in a simple pot, commonly banded possessing a completely

messy, supplying a comforting illusion of Command in the direction of the neophyte. But just maintain out until
that prickly pear outgrows its stylish crib.
Speaking of classy, does the Bay Location now hold the best focus of creatively refined gardens from the country?
It would appear so, judging While using the charming images of Marion Brenner in Non-public GARDENS With
the BAY House (Monacelli, $60). The tricky-Operating workforce of Susan Lowry and Nancy Berner has Previously
posted publications about New Jersey and Hudson Valley gardens; this quantity is particularly enjoyable in its
breadth and assortment. Admire the looser, even bigger interpretation of Japanese aesthetics inside the courtyard
back again back garden overlooking San Francisco or Probably the dreamy light filtering in the ancient trees in the
St. Eden Again back garden in shut proximity to Oakville, with its Mild gray mounds of olive, lavender and
teucrium — a small amount of Provence. The pool throughout the Berggruen home goes suitable into my
“aspiration file.” An artful moss collection, improbably shown in packing containers and on logs, graces a porch in
Glen Park, although metallic and concrete planters snake up a cliff on Telegraph Hill to accomplish a staggering
check out. Californians appeal to inspiration from inside the earth — but then they do their unique challenge, to
dazzling affect.
Just just in case this seems to be your Winter time of discontent, fire up the glue gun, unfurl the crepe paper and
switch on on The good Artwork OF PAPER Bouquets (Watson-Guptill, $twenty 5). I kid you not: Tiffanie Turner’s
creations are exquisite. Her D.I.Y. Advice for handmade marigolds, roses, dianthus and daffodils are meticulous.
How calming an activity this looks becoming will most likely mirror where ever your cravings tumble around the
indica-sativa scale; I personally wouldn’t Do this in the house. But I will permanently admire the angelic creatures
between us who are able to pull poppies from paper. They’re Virtually as miraculous as These beauties we so
