“Hello, my name is Amerigo Vespucci. I was born on March 18th 1454 in Florence,
Italy”

“I made a difference in society because I am the man who discovered the Americas.
They also named the two continents after my first name- 'Amerigo'”

“please listen up and I will tell you about my life”

“My parents, Sergionastagio Vespucci and Lisa di Giovanni Mini, wanted me to be in the
commercial life and have a mercantile career where I could save the families fortune”

“I had other plans, I wanted to be like my idol- Christopher Columbus. I wanted to
travel around the World searching for new lands. Instead of going to school, my uncle,
Giorgio Antonio Vespucci, taught me Latin, physical sciences, astronomy,
cosmography, and geography. He also helped me with my interest in Astronomy and
the study of the universe”

“When I grew older, I moved to Seville, Spain in 1491. I was there when Columbus
returned from his first journey to the New World. I suddenly had a great idea! I
decided to go and visit the New World myself”

“I got ready with two big ships and Alonso de Hojeda, the skilled navigator and
governor. We sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, discovering new islands like Espanola.
We came back with many new foods and supplies that we found!”
“On my second journey, I set sail to find the Strait of Catigara, which Ptolemy had
thought led to Asia. However, my trip sailed along the coast of what is now South
America. I discovered Cuba, Brazil, Columbia, Uruguay, Argentina and Venezuela. I
knew that it wasn't Asia, or nowhere near Asia. I had discovered a new continent! I
became instantly famous. I was a legend! In fact, I was so famous that the government
named the continent after me!”

“My third and last journey was a disappointment. I kept sailing but didn't find any new
and exciting lands. After that, I lost faith and returned to Seville, Spain. I became Master
Navigator of the city”

“I then died on February 22nd 1512 of old age. When you think of me, do remember
that I was a very famous person and I had discovered many new lands. They even
named two continents after me!”

“I now have time for two questions”
