QUALIFICATION BACKGROUND–
Conversant principles and standards for Passive Optical Networks (PONs) and point to point networks
with reference to Fibre to home (FttH) installations.
Installation, acceptance test and fault find of Cat 5/6, Multi/single mode fibre systems including Passive
Optical Networks and Air Blown Fibre, using a range of next generation OTDR’s, light source and power
meters and high precision fusion splicer’s as well as many other types of measuring and test equipment.
Trained in Health and safety in the workplace and with the RASWA (Signing, Lighting and Guarding). Also
competent to conduct comprehensive risk assessments.
Terminate Fibre with a wide range of interconnection devices and connector types, both hand and
machine polishing techniques. Proficient in using different termination method within the laboratory,
manufacturing in field environments, achieving low reflectance and insertion loss.
Splice all types of fibre including ribbon from standard G652 to laser enhanced speciality fibres OM1,
OM2, OM3 and OS1. Experienced in a range of fusion splicers such as Fujikura (FSM60s & 50s) and Fitel
(123 &178) machines. Joining cables using variety of mechanical splices.
Confirm performance and characterisation of fibre systems using insertion loss measurement techniques
with smart light source and power meters (Exfo 980 max-tester) and PON power meters and OTDR’s.
Proficient in E-side, D-side connectivity and qualified in installing cable systems.
Install and terminate copper cabling (Cat 5,5e,6 and Co-axial) with a variety of interconnection devices
and connection types.
LAN Permanent lint/ channel testing with Level 3 LAN Testers (DTX-1800, DSP-4000).
Experience working on various communications systems, operating HF, VHF communication equipment
from aerials to user interface with associated security devices.
NEBOSH Fire Management,
Compliance training instructor, Risk Assessment Principles and Practice,
ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) qualifications.
