1. What have you learnt
about technologies from
the process of
constructing this product?
2. Software:
The software that we used to edit our title sequence footage was called Final Cut
Express; we choose to use this particular software due to it being fairly simple to use
as well as the its ability aid us in completing our editing to a high standard.
From our filming stages we had a variety of shots and different scenes- not all that we
wanted to be included in the final product however Final Cut allowed us to review
our work prior to making any alterations. And therefore we could delete and save the
correct footage as we required.
A
s well as this we were able to include various other skill such as adding the sinister
music, change of lighting to create suspense or creating fading jump cuts. In addition
it allowed us to add text to our film were we desired for example if we wanted to
include the names of featured actors but most obviously the title of the film ‘Parallel
Minds’.
3. Use of camera:
I feel I have gained vast amounts of knowledge since I completed my preliminary task due
within the use of cameras. Initially I had only prior experience in using flip or hand held
cameras. However now I have managed to film successfully with the larger
cameras, although I didn't film a large amount of my group footage due to assisting with
aspects such as lighting and the characters positioning. The camera films in excellent
resolution and with the accompanying use of Final Cut Express we were able to ensure
we didn't loose any of the quality.
The cameras can appear to be very technologically difficult so in the initial stages of grasping
how to use them to their full potential- so it is vital you check what each button is
responsible for, before pressing it to ensure you do not accidently delete or ruin any
needed footage.
We inserted a tape into the camera in order for our filming to be recorded, and saved which
then consequently allowed us to upload it too a Mac PC before uploading on to Final Cut
Express to make and finalising the touches to how we desired the outcome of our final
product to be.
4. Conversion:
Once we had completed all of our filming
we needed to get the footage onto our
editing device – Mac PC. We did this by
connecting a USB cable and uploaded the
information, and therefore saved it to the
Mac before we then went on to conduct
our editing process using Final Cut Express
which then allowed us to easily edit all of
our exiting footage. However once this was
complete we needed to convert the
footage from Final Cut Express to YouTube.
5. Photoshop:
In order to create a realistic and
appealing poster to advertise our film we
used Photoshop. We conducted this by
initially taking still images of Scar’s face
using a basic camera. We continued by
uploading them to our Mac and
consequently Photoshop. We made a
number of changes with the
lighting, framing and cropping so that we
could precisely capture exactly we
desired to be presented. We also used
tools to deform the face of the
character, so connote to a typical horror
film advertisement being frightening
however not too revealing on the plot.
