o parts of speech—nouns, adjectives, pronouns, verbs, interjections, conjunctions,

o sentence structure, run-ons, fragments
o subject-verb agreement
o commas and semi-colons
o capitalization
o direct quotes and punctuating dialogue
• Writing workshop/Six Trait Writing Your writing will include:
o Pre-writing poetry
o Drafting Slices of Life
o Revising/conferencing/peer review business letters
o Editing myths
o Polishing reviews
o Publishing persuasive essays
o Self-assessment Literary Non-Fiction
You may be wondering what you have to do to be successful (i.e. get a good grade) in this class. I will always
tell you; grades will not be a mystery in language arts class. You can even check them on-line! Ultimately, I
expect you to put in your best effort to produce quality work and take responsibility for your work.
Overall, success in language arts class comes down to being responsible.
Your language arts grade will be comprised of:

• the writing process
• final writing products
• quizzes
• participation/preparedness/responsibility
