2. BIOGRAPHY OF BUFFET WARREN
• Warren Buffett is an investment guru and one of the richest and most respected businessmen in the
world.
Warren Buffett demonstrated keen business abilities at a young age. He formed Buffett Partnership Ltd. in
1956, and by 1965 he had assumed control of Berkshire Hathaway. Overseeing the growth of a
conglomerate with holdings in the media, insurance, energy and food and beverage industries, Buffett
became one of the world's richest men and a celebrated philanthropist.
Buffett enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania at the age of 16 to study business. He stayed two years,
moved to the University of Nebraska to finish up his degree, and emerged from college at age 20 with
nearly $10,000 from his childhood businesses. In 1951 he received his master's degree in economics at
Columbia University, where he studied under economist Benjamin Graham, and furthered his education at
the New York Institute of Finance.
3. BUFFETT'S FIRST PARTNERSHIP
Before working for Benjamin Graham, Warren had been an investment salesman – a job that he liked
doing, except when the stocks he suggested dropped in value and lost money for his clients. To minimize
the potential of having irate clients, Warren started a partnership with his close friends and family.
The partnership had unique restrictions attached to it: Warren himself would invest only $100 and, through
re-invested management fees, would grow his stake in the partnership. Warren would take half of the
partnership’s gains over 4% and would repay the partnership a quarter of any loss incurred. Furthermore,
money could only be added or withdrawn from the partnership on December 31st, and partners would have
no input about the investments in the partnership.
By 1959, Warren had opened a total of seven partnerships and had a 9.5% stake in more than a million
dollars of partnership assets. Three years later, Warren was now a millionaire and merged all of his
partnerships into a single entity.

4. COMPANY: BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY
• In 1956 Buffet formed the firm Buffett Partnership Ltd. in his hometown of Omaha. Utilizing the
techniques learned from Graham, he was successful in identifying undervalued companies and became
a millionaire. One such enterprise Buffett valued was a textile company named Berkshire Hathaway. He
began accumulating stock in the early 1960s, and by 1965 he had assumed control of the company.
Despite the success of Buffett Partnership, its founder dissolved the firm in 1969 to focus on the
development of Berkshire Hathaway. He phased out its textile manufacturing division, instead expanding
the company by buying assets in media (The Washington Post), insurance (GEICO) and oil (Exxon).
Immensely successful, the "Oracle of Omaha" even managed to spin seemingly poor investments into
gold, most notably with his purchase of scandal-plagued Salomon Brothers in 1987.
Following Berkshire Hathaway's significant investment in Coca-Cola, Buffett became director of the
company from 1989 until 2006. He has also served as director of Citigroup Global Markets Holdings,
Graham Holdings Company and The Gillette Company

6. CONTINUATION
The company is known for its control and leadership by Warren Buffett, who serves as chairman and chief
executive, and Charlie Munger, the company's vice chairman. In the early part of his career at Berkshire,
Buffett focused on long-term investments in publicly traded companies, but more recently he has more
frequently bought whole companies. Berkshire now owns a diverse range of businesses
including confectionery, retail, railroads, home furnishings, encyclopedias, manufacturers of vacuum
cleaners, jewelry sales, newspaper publishing, manufacture and distribution of uniforms, and several
regional electric and gas utilities.
According to the Forbes Global 2000 list and formula, Berkshire Hathaway is the third largest public
company in the world, the ninth largest conglomerate by revenue and the largest financial services
company by revenue in the world. Berkshire is currently the seventh largest company in the S&P 500 Index
by market capitalization, and is famous for having the most expensive share price in history with a class
a share costing around $300,000 each. This is due to the fact that there has never been a stock split and
Buffett has stated in a 1984 letter to shareholders that he does not intend to do so.
10. CONCLUSION
• Warren Buffett is considered the greatest investor in U.S. history, but he is also sets an interesting example
regarding his views on wealth. As a value investor, Warren is a sort of jack-of-all-trades when it comes to
industry knowledge. Berkshire Hathaway is a great example.
Buffett saw a company that was cheap and bought it, regardless of the fact that he wasn’t an expert in textile
manufacturing. Gradually, Buffett shifted Berkshire’s focus away from its traditional endeavors, instead using it as
a holding company to invest in other businesses. Over the decades, Warren has bought, held and sold
companies in a variety of different industries.
• Some of Berkshire Hathaway’s most well-known subsidiaries include, but are not limited to, GEICO (yes, that
little Gecko belongs to Warren Buffett), Dairy Queen, NetJets, Benjamin Moore & Co., and Fruit of the Loom.
Again, these are only a handful of companies of which Berkshire Hathaway has a majority share.
