The controlling, abusive dad moves there to escape pressure of city life. The dad and older brother are constantly arguing, and the mum is obsessed with the newborn baby. This leads to the neglect of the young daughter, who soon begins to resent every member of the family. Soon after they move to the country, the father and son begin arguing more. Deprived of company, the girl creates an imaginary companion of her own whom she turns to for advice and friendship.
One night after an argument between the father and son, a pair of hands is seen smothering the drunken father with a pillow while he sleeps leading to his death. We are unaware of the person behind the attack, although all signs lead towards the brother being guilty, and he is quickly sent to prison. This leads to a grief stricken mother who is easily controlled by her daughter and an ultimately female led household. We are later shown signs to hint the guilty side of the girl, the story is unveiled through the use of the girls imaginary friend.
The film is resolved in the end through the girls acceptance of the murders she committed, and the audience’s ultimate choice to sympathise with her or not.
Info
Rated 15 by the Author. This is because the movie contains scenes of psychological horror such as the killing of family members and the fact that the killer is a little girl, it could be shocking for a young audience. However keeping it 15 allows a for wider target audience to achieve more profit.
Approx 90 minutes long as my research shows that this is a common length for thriller films and it is an appropriate length for a thriller as too much build may cause the audience to begin losing interest.
Produced by Castle Rock Entertainment – Castle Rock have produced many thriller classics such as The Shawshank Redemption and Misery It is owned the Warner Bros. Company so has a large amount of support.
