Paul Marciano is vice chairman and chief executive of Guess Inc., whose striking black-and-white campaigns broke new ground in advertising.As the visionary behind Guess’ iconic photography, Marciano launched careers of fashion models and lensmen alike. Sixteen-year-old Carla Bruni, Anna Nicole Smith and Claudia Schiffer were among his “Guess Girl” finds. Rather than settle for typical studio-shot imagery, Marciano brought photographers and models outdoors for an edgy feel.Marciano grew up in Marseille, France, and joined Guess shortly after his brothers launched the company in 1981 in California. Immediately and without any training, he took the lead on image development as creative director, collecting several coveted Clio awards over the years. He served as president and chief operating officer from 1992 to 2000. From 1999 to 2007, he shared the chairman and ceo titles with his brother, Maurice.
