AL CAPONE INTRO
•

Born January 7, 1899.

•

The fourth of nine children .

•

Became famous in the 1920’s as one of the most notorious criminals in
American History.

•

Dropped out at 14 years old for fighting a teacher.

•

Joined a gang doing illegal business.

•

Got cut for insulting a woman and her boyfriend cut him and that’s how
he got the name “Scarface.”

•

Met a girl named Coughlin and got married to her in December 1919
after giving birth to Albert Francis “Sonny” Capone.
HIS BUSINESS
•

Moved to Chicago, then became second in command of organized criminal
activity.

•

He protected his business by paying officers money to keep them away.

•

As the 1920’s progressed the level of organized crime violence escalated.

•

February 14, 1929 Capons gang attacked Moran’s men, shooting his men
down. Although Capone was in Florida at the time he was credited to what
was called the St. valentine’s day massacre.

•

Capone surrounded himself with body guards and bullet proof cars.

Capone proved himself to be the extremely successful crime boss.

At 26 years old, he was in charge of organized clubs and hangouts.

He was also known for being nice and generous.

Capone once tipped a waitress 100 dollars.

Handed out clothes to the needy and opened the first soup kitchen.

It is believed that Capone personally murdered dozens of people.
