12. Any thought can transform
you, you control how you
think and act.
Editor's Notes
-Hi everyone my name is Kiran Kandola and today I’m going to talk about The Law of Attraction.
The Law of Attraction is the idea that everything and anything you want can be yours if you simply think and focus on it. Simple definitions are phrases like “like attracts like” or “what you focus on expands”.
So you’re probably thinking, does this mean if I think I’m going to be rich will I actually be rich? Does money actually grow on trees? If I want Channing Tatum can I really have him?! Is it that easy?! And the answer is…
NO! But here’s the thing, you’re not the only one that gets confused and makes assumptions without the full knowledge behind the topic. These misconceptions lead to ignorance. Many people end up believing and falling for the idea that everything and anything you want is under your complete control.
-People believe the law of attraction for numerous reasons, one of the main ones being a series of books called The Secret, The Power and The Magic and many others fall for the numerous other get rich schemes researchers and the media have come up with.
And why do people even begin to believe in these ideas? Because people like Rhonda Byrne’s try to explain the Law of Attraction as an actual law of the universe. They make it comparable to the gravitational law when in reality it in no way is comparable. In reality, we’ve all been taught opposites attract, so how is this new selling point of like attracts like being bought? They claim it can all be proven by quantum physics without actually providing the supporting evidence. Scientists have made it known that there is no scientific evidence that the law of attraction is real, but they have also made it known that there is nothing disproving the theory completely. So we see a lot of people ignorantly believing the words of best-selling authors without fully researching the topic themselves and as a result they gain millions of dollars and endorsements.
-A major selling point for writers of “The law of attraction” was the fact that Oprah endorsed the idea to the millions of people that watch her show. I mean, if Oprah says it’s real than it must be right? Well a couple of weeks later, she ended up taking it back when a young girl diagnosed with cancer said she was giving up on her cancer treatments to instead focus completely on positive energy and to heal that way… Oprah was criticized highly for promoting the idea.
Another reason readers fall for the idea of Law of Attraction is because the fact of the matter is we all want something to believe in, we all want hope, especially in an economy like today, everyone wants to believe they have complete and total control over their success when in reality you just don’t have control over all external factors. After all, Obama’s entire selling point for the election was the idea of Hope. and that is what America voted for.
So what’s the problem? Everyone should have hope right? The problem is, so many people are misled into thinking they have complete control over their fortune, relationships and health that they end up blaming themselves for not being able to accomplish what they want when it may not even be their fault. This results in lower self esteem, higher rates of depression, more psychiatrist visits, and huge blows to the ego all leading to thinking you’re not doing something right and there must be something wrong with you.
Now don’t get me wrong, I do believe in a portion of the law of attraction. What I mainly believe in, is the old idea of law of attraction. It is not scientifically proven, and it makes me angry that people are making a fortune off of claiming it is. As well as changing the meaning of the whole idea into “you will get whatever you wish for”. If something bad happens to someone around you, it honestly can’t always be because YOU did something wrong. YOU cannot always control everything. There are things YOU have no control over. In reference to the tsunami in 2004 that left many people homeless and alone, Rhonda Byrne’s stated that the tsunami was caused by people being “on the same frequency as the event” and implied the tsunami victims could have spared themselves. So did the people in the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 attract their own death? Is a 2 year-old baby that starves to death in Africa to blame?
Those are all the idea’s I don’t agree with, the ideas based on a get rich quick scheme. What I do agree with however, is the OLD law of attraction. The idea that you should surround yourself with positive thoughts and things. It didn’t try to support itself on false claims or sell anything to anyone. This idea simply meant if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, you can change your day by meditating or just looking at things from a different perspective. You are in control of how you act and react to things.
-If you are happy and shine with radiance than I do believe that on some subconcious level more people will be attracted to you and want to strike up a conversation verse a person whose in a more negative mindset. I don’t know if I believe the universe will just hand whatever you want to you just because you wish for it, but I do believe that you are in charge of how you perceive things, and the ability to always think positively will do wonders on your everyday life.
