Kenneth Huang - Jack white to release ‘ultra lp’ version of new album
1. Jack White To Release ‘Ultra LP’
Version Of New Album
2. Jack White is probably rock ‘n’ roll’s
highest profile ambassador for the
virtues of the vinyl record format, and he
plans to advance his cause with the
release of his new record Lazaretto. As
reported by NPR’s All Songs
Considered, White plans to release the
record with a number of very unusual
special features that will distinguish it
from other versions of the album.
3. For example, the main album which will
play at the standard 33 ⅓ RPM, but
there will be a hidden track playable
beneath the center label at 78 RPM, and
a second second track that can be
heard at 45 RPM.
4. Other goodies for audiophiles featured
on the so-called ‘Ultra LP’ version of
Lazaretto will include what is termed
“dual-groove technology.” This will allow
the listener to hear different versions of
songs depending upon where the
needle is dropped. The song “Just One
Drink,” for example can begin with
acoustic or electric guitar depending
where you drop the needle. Side A of
the album can be played inside out -
from the center to the edge - where it
will end in a “locked groove” that will
play over and over- a good deal better
than the thumping sound that normally
signals the end of a side of vinyl.
5. The album will have other features, such
as a hand-etched hologram Tristan
Duke of Infinity Light Science. The LP
will also feature mixes and running order
that differ from CD and digital versions.
The Ultra LP version of Lazaretto will be
available for purchase on Jun. 10.
