2. Before I started the Media
Communication Bachelor of
Science (MCBS) Program I was
a Combat Documentation and
Production Specialist in the
United States Army for more
than 20 years.
3. After my retirement from the
active duty I was lucky to get
hired as a Television Production
Specialist for the Department of
Defense at the American Forces
Network (AFN), in California.
4. As much as I enjoy media creation in general and especially, television
production, this was not something I dreamed about while growing up.
5. I had always thought I wanted to
be a Soldier. Never in my mind
had I had a different idea.
6. As a child I tirelessly played war games and enjoyed toy guns.
7. Back in my old country of
Romania, I applied and entered
the Military Academy, right after
High School graduation.
8. But then, during the first semester of training at the Academy, I started some
political quarrels with my instructors, which got me kicked out from the
military school, without possibility of becoming a soldier.
9. Because of that, I escaped the
oppressing Communist regime
of Romania and I emigrated to
the United States of America
when I was 22 years of age.
10. Soon after my arrival I attended college for almost two years and then I
joined the United States Army.
11. Because of that, I had the choice of selecting one of many jobs that the US Army
had to offer. I made a decision not to pursue my dream of becoming a Special
Forces operator.
12. My recruiter offered me the job of Visual Documentation Specialist, as it
was called at that time; a job that I never thought in my life that I would
have the talent for, or be capable of doing.
13. Because of that I went to school to learn about television, radio, and other media
communication tools at the Defense Information School. Due to my English
speaking limitation I was under constant stress during the training and I thought I
would not graduate.
14. Those thoughts were not founded; I graduated second in the class, and my
final video production was played at a local television station during a military
related program.
15. I continued my military service and worked in this field my whole Army
career.
16. Finally, 20 years later, I retired from the best military and from the best job
anybody can have.
17. The love I developed for my job made me consider it more like a hobby. I could
not just give it up so I continued to work in this area of media communication, as
a civilian for the Department of Defense Television Network.
18. And ever since, I decided to continue my passion for media communication by
getting a Bachelor Degree with Full Sail University to complete the circle of
education in the same field I started 24 years ago.
