Johannes Müller-Stosch Music Director
Dear Friends of the Holland Symphony Orchestra,
This year I am looking back on six great years of being
the Music Director of the HSO and the orchestra’s
accomplishments. We have grown and matured as an
organization and have created a sound and a presence
that we look forward to sharing with you, our supporters.
In this NEW season we will perform repertoire that has
not previously been done in Holland. Classics I will take
us to Russia (after Beethoven’s French Revolution-inspired
Leonore Overture) to the lush Romantic melodies and
exciting rhythms for Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. The
juxtaposition of Romantic gestures with exciting rhythms
will tie our first concert to Classics II as we travel to
France with Debussy and Ravel and an added Spanish
flair. The diversity wouldn’t be complete without a longer
stop in Germany of the 1920s. I am excited to share the
music of Franz Schmidt and Joseph Marx with you since
the composers of that era are of particular interest to me
and they are beginning to be re-discovered after being
put aside by the Nazis. The pieces presented to you in
this season are extraordinary, and our line-up of first-rate
artists will bring you to your feet.
I am so thankful that live classical music thrives in Holland,
Michigan. It is due to your continued support that we can
perform these concerts for you and share our passion for
orchestral music. I encourage you to invite your friends
and neighbors to become part of our audience.
Musically yours,
Johannes Müller-Stosch
