Presentation Inspiration
KineticFuture: Leadership Communications Coaching

  Making It Real
So many presenters go into "transmit" when they present. Delivering facts and key points often
  with considerable gusto.

But to make your ideas stick in the audience's mind, to persuade, to change behavior you need to
  do much more.

The easiest of our "Presentations that Stick" principles is to "Make it Real". Find a way to make
your key ideas come to life for your audience.

  · TV programme Dragons Den has some good (and bad!) examples. Recently, a new kid's drama
school owner, brought teenagers from their classes to dance and answer questions about the
concept. She secured the finance from Duncan Bannatyne.

  · A DIY store played a video from a comedy programme showing how bad retail service used to
be. And then went on to show how a new type of service was pivotal to success.

  · Top Gear on TV this week wanted to prove that a new Honda MPV only available in the USA
should be launched in the UK and aimed at young active people. They used a quirky approach.
They took the MPV to an English bowling club full of traditional elderly Honda owners. They hated
it and recommended that only young people would like it.

  · In a pitch for a teacher training campaign the team wrote and acted a mini drama showing what
potential teachers said today about teaching. And then replayed the drama showing what they
would say after the campaign. Guess who won?

  · Design company IDEO wanted to show hospital employees why they needed to change the
patient flow around the hospital. They set up a patient on a hospital trolley with a hand held
camera and they filmed their experience around the hospital. When the hospital staff saw the film
they immediately engaged in why change was needed.

Whether you do something bold or take a simple route of showing vox pops, new research or
mocking up your ideas, do something to "Make it Real". It's very effective and gives you a great
  presentation experience.
