Annabelle is a horror film about a couple who receive a vintage doll as a gift. They begin experiencing terrifying supernatural events involving the doll after their home is invaded by satanic cultists. The cultists have imbued the doll with a malevolent entity. The wife believes she is being tormented by the doll mentally when she is alone, making her question her sanity, while the doll seems inactive when her husband is present. 2. Summary
 “A couple begins to experience terrifying
supernatural occurrences involving a vintage
doll shortly after their home is invaded by
satanic cultists”
 John Form has found the perfect gift for his
expectant wife, Mia - a beautiful, rare vintage
doll in a pure white wedding dress. But Mia's
delight with Annabelle doesn't last long. On
one horrific night, their home is invaded by
members of a satanic cult, who violently
attack the couple. Spilled blood and terror are
not all they leave behind. The cultists have
conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing
they did will compare to the sinister conduit to
the damned that is now Annabelle.

3. Horror
 Annabelle is a hybrid of horror and psychological.
 Horror films usually involve an antagonist who is
often portrayed as the “monster”. In this case, the
antagonist can be seen within the doll, Annabelle.
This “monster” first instigates the horror inflicted on
the couple, allowing room for the plot to grow.
Horror films also contain a “final girl”, this is a
female character who is seen as weak or
vulnerable, but is able to survive until the end of
the movie. In Annabelle, the wife is classified as the
“final girl” as she is pregnant and pretty much
unable to defend herself, but manages to fight
away those who try and take away her freedom.

4. Psychological
 Annabelle can be seen as a psychological thriller
because there’s no clear murder scenes
involved, but instead, the doll torments the
mental side of their lives. The doll primarily targets
the wife, while the husband is away and at work,
fulfilling his “traditional duties” as a family man,
because those are the moments when the doll
can exploit her to its fullest potential. However,
when the husband is around and at home, the
antagonist seems to cool down, this makes the
wife believe that she is mentally troubled and
starts to question whether she is ‘day-dreaming’
or not.
