Best Practices for Implementing an External Recruiting Partnership
Analysis
1.
2. What is Genre?
‘Genre’ is a style or category of a piece of art or music or film. Genre
means ‘type’. Genre is a form of art and/or entertainment.
Not all art is the same, this is why many films, work of art etc are put
into different categories.
For example, if we talk about books and films, there are Romance,
Comedy, Horror etc books and films. We also have different genres of
music, such as Rock, RnB, Soul etc. To conclude, every form of art and
entertainment is put into a certain category according to what the art
form is like.
3. Highlights death which
presents Horror
Darkness presents
unhappiness
Fog highlights
the loneliness
presented in
the film
Abandoned house which
presents ancient times
Death (the hanging rope) is the
main focus, lets us know the
film is Horror
4. Fight scene tells the audience
what genre the movie is
Radar like background tells us it is an action
film
Looks like somebody is
chasing the main star
Action based colour
scheme
Shows he is in trouble
5. Thriller
Action films may include scenes to do with violence, fighting, car
chasing, shooting etc. Action films are generally an 12A, or a 15 or 18.
They are never below an 12A due to the violence involved. Action
films (can) usually include car chases, killings, explosions, danger
involving weapons (guns, knives etc), the ‘good’ person and the ‘bad’
person and a ‘cat and mouse’ chase. Usually, Modern action films
(and some old ones) involve hi-tech machinery and flashy cars. This is
usually a norm for action films. Additionally, most (not all) action films
are set in “The big city” such as Central London, New York etc. This is
because the directors feel this is an appropriate backdrop to set the
film. Some examples of Action films include The Bourne Identity,
Inception and Batman-The Dark Knight.
6. Horror
Horror films are usually a 15+. This is due to the scary characters, the story
line, that are not suitable for a younger audience. Horror films such as the
conjuring may involve uncommon story lines. In the Conjuring, a Doll is
controlling the ‘household’ in a way. Additionally, the setting for a horror
film is usually an isolated place or places with small communities (eg an
abandoned house). Moreover, a ‘dark history’ or ‘dark story’ about the
setting is usually in the story line. A common example could be that a
woman has been murdered in the house she was living at 500 years ago for
example. Additionally horror films usually include ghosts or some kind of
spirit, that is usually disrupting the character, moreover horror films also
include a ‘mystery room’ (eg in The Conjuring the girls discover a cellar in
the house). Settings for Horror films can include abandoned houses and
hotels, a cellar or ‘prison’, a mental asylum and the dark woods.
7. The Conjuring Trailer Analysis
Frightens the reader more,
as it is not fake it is real.
The darkness gives
the film the horror
effect, and we can tell
it is a horror film due
to the rope and the
darkness of the trees.
This part of the trailer may
scare the audience as the
dog is staring directly at
us, and the way the doll is
lying may present death.
Tells the reader
indirectly that the
house has something
to do with a family
that lived there
before.
Lets the audience know that
the director has made
previous successful films so
they should watch the film.
She cannot see,
which may let the
viewer know
something
unexpected will
happen and scare
the audience and
the character.
8. Comparing Horror and Thriller (Differences)
Horror Thriller
Is usually for 15+ audiences (an older
audience)
Can be for a slightly younger audience eg
12, 12A
Horrors' are aimed to terrify and scare
the viewers
Thrillers are aimed to ‘Thrill’ and excite
the viewer, and make them feel some
adrenaline.
Horrors are usually predictable, you can
almost tell what is going to happen in the
next scene.
Thrillers usually contain better plots, and
is not predictable
Horror films are usually less realistic than
thrillers
Thrillers usually may contain scenes of
other genres eg romance in the plot,
whereas horror films usually don’t.
9. Horror and Thriller (Similarities)
Horror and Thriller films similarities
Both genres keep the audience at the edge of their seat, and both films create
suspense for the audience.
