1. Phone
The telephone is a device used to talk to people from long distances in the safty of
your own home (telephone stands for distant voice). An example would be talking to
someone from America while I live in England. Over the years the telephone has
evolved into a portable device, the mobile phone. The mobile phone meant wherever
you were in the world, as long as you have a signal you can talk to whoever you
want when you want. Phones have also had different ways of paying for the
communication like being able to buy a contract. A contract is having a set amount of
Texts, calls and internet. The more you pay, the more you get. The more advanced
that mobile phones get the more that they are beginning to be like a computer.
SMS
SMS is like typing up an email except instead of it being sent to the receipts email, it
is sent to their phones. SMS stands for Short messaging service. Most people refer
to SMS as text message or just simply a ‘text’. The concept started in 1882 by 2
German men called Friedhelm Hillebrand and Bernard Ghillebaert. The idea was to
be able to transmit a message between either phone to phone or phone to
messenger handling system (these were widely used at the time). Over time the text
message has improved as you are now able to send pictures and videos which are
called MMS (multimedia messaging service). There are also loopholes around
having to pay for your texts like having other services like Whatsapp or Kik which are
just messaging services like Skype or Windows live messenger. SMS has also
evolved in the way that you can send messages to other people a lot faster because
the network has gone from 1G to 2G to 3G.
MMS
MMS stands for Multimedia messaging service. MMS started in 2004 and although it
had a bumpy start as people at first couldn’t properly receive these pictures or videos
or if they did receive them they would get severely charged for them, they eventually
found a stable way for mobile phones to be able to send and receive videos and
pictures.
