2. Life
No closer to God can one be
Than to give life
No closer to life can one be
Than to nurture it
No greater love can one give
Than all you are
No greater thanks can one give
Than love

In ‘58 the World stood still
When space allotted God did fill
Into a family, then of five
Consuelo Lucia came alive
The only girl with brothers three
We now were six this family
It wasn’t easy being small
When all her brothers were so tall
But Connie was a different sort
Of firsthand knowledge I report
So through the years it’s been her show
A painter, poet, friend to know
Of her I am so very proud
To me a gift God has allowed

9. Mark served our
country in the
U.S. Army during
the Vietnam War
and received
these service
medals.
10. Mark was assigned to
type letter orders as
to where the soldiers
were going. Many of
them were very afraid
and begged him to
send them anywhere
except the front line.
11. Mark was hit
by a stray
bullet in the
back while he
was sleeping.
During his
pancreatic
cancer
surgery,
Dr. Alassas
found the rest
of the bullet
fragments and
gave them
back to him.
12. Brion Toss was Mark’s brother

14. To the family and friends of Mark: My sincere and deepest regret over the loss of such a
special man. To say I personally am devastated over his passing is an understatement.
I hired Mark at Safeco Title. Mark needed not answer any BS questions about his background
as he owned me from the get-go with his smile.
He became a valued and integral part of my team which to this day some 40 years later, I still
marvel over the connection these young people formed with each other. Mark was the
special glue that kept everyone together.
I had followed Mark’s health progress and was totally humbled by his courage and optimism
throughout his ordeal. Brave does not even come close to describing his resoluteness to
overcome his disease. We talked almost bi-weekly and the last conversation just a week prior
to his passing. I can still hear his laughter in my mind.
I loved the boy in him. I loved the genuine persona he always displayed. As I told another of
his co-workers though he was only 2 years younger than I, I feel like I had lost one of my
“kids” as I thought of this group of people we had assembled together.
His impact upon me is indelible. I am a better man for having the privilege of knowing him.
To his family, to his friends, and all within his amazing life’s orbit I too share the grief of his
loss. Rest In Peace, my dear dear friend. I miss you.
Respectfully, Greg Pickthorn
45. Cassidy
A little girl named Cassidy
Couldn’t wait to really be
Born six weeks before her due
A little girl so cute and new
Now her birthday nine is here
So fast she’s growing up I fear
I live to watch and see her grow
And lover her so so much you know
For I’m the father of this lass
I’m thankful for my daughter Cass
48. Boldness
I find more in boldness
Excitement demands it
Both arrive looking forward to it
Not dwelling to undo
I write to speak in motion
Seeking only a listener
If the reader is deafened
The page is lost
When it speaks well there is excitement
And I have not been too bold

49. What Moves You
What moves you up and out of bed
What gathers order in your head
What words solve your every need
What inspiration serves your creed
Words of wisdom motivate
From sources unknown to the great
Put it out there what you deem
As necessary to your dream
And wisdom that you couldn’t see
Will find and guide your place to be
It’s up to you to make your day
Be kind to others on your way

53. Machine and Man
To race along in two wheeled madness
And hold the power of time itself
To seek the limit in every turn
And exit its master
The road flowing to my whim
As if the sky in limitless boundary
To be part machine and man
And in that blending ecstasy
-Mark Perez
58. Mark was so charismatic.
He could talk to anyone!
He would sit down next to my
grandmother and stir up a
conversation with her on any
topic and make her feel good.
He was kind. He was
generous with his time and
attention. He was a terrific
brother-in-law.

60. In about 1981 at the height of a major recession, Mark and I were
moved inside to replace people who had been laid off in the Safeco
Policy Information Dept, so that we could go back to sales when
the economy and market improved. We had a blast. Got to bond
and become friends. I will always remember his special laugh as
we chatted while we printed out all the docs the examiners needed
to do the title reports. We made the best of a bad recession and
knew we’d be better salesmen knowing more about the title
process.
Mark would give his right arm for someone hurting. That was who
he was. And was the one who always organized our team lunches
over the years, keeping us all in touch and close, as the tight group
we were in sales that Greg, our Sales manager, built through his
incredible leadership. Mark, you will always be in our hearts
forever!

63. So many memories of my friend Mark: Someone I counted
on, ready to help however he could, always cheerful. From
being my first title rep in 1992 to years of spur of the
moments lunch or coffee, to being the consummate party
guest, to his support when my husband died, to his delight in
making a custom chair during a pandemic, his smiling face
was always there.
In his deep, abiding love and pride for his girls, his family and
his loving, far reaching, quirky circle of friends, one could tell
his was a life well lived. He was a dear, dear friend who I'll
miss every day.
-Diane Easley
65. I was fortunate to have worked with Mark for many years.
He was always a team player, injecting his positive message.
There are so many great memories as we all participated in
planning: presentations, open houses, company promotions,
golf events, group gatherings and even marching in the
Seafair parade. We had a lot of fun.
Our friendships spawned from the title insurance business
have continued for decades. Opportunity would lead these
friends in different directions, but Mark took on the role and
responsibility to ensure those friendship would endure by
organizing a communication network and advocating for get
togethers and reunions. We have been so appreciative of
those efforts and hope someone will step into Mark’s shoes.

71. Dreams
Define the line between yourself and what is yet to come
A new life to be counted on plus what you have the sum
You’re not alone in your debate tis nature to succeed
Success depends on many things, but most of all your need
If what you’re doing makes you feel trapped, you’ll always be
Don’t be a victim of your passion, seek it willingly
And when the line has disappeared and you’ve become your
dreams
Eliminate the lines you find in all your other schemes
-Mark Perez
77. I always appreciated Mark for his quiet support during
our soccer years. I will always remember showing up
to practice one chilly, rainy evening. Mark came over to
me and said “ Hey Bob, your truck is leaking
something.” We took a look and discovered it was
leaking antifreeze. I said crap (or something like that)
and Mark said, “don’t worry about it. Go coach the
kids and I’ll take care of it.” While we were
practicing, Mark went to the store, got some antifreeze
and filled the radiator back up for me.

79. From Mark’s cats:
Mark was the kind, compassionate guy
who rescued us from underneath Kamas
Realty, the pet store, or the animal
shelter. We knew he was a cat guy right
away because he let us use furniture as a
scratching post, and we were allowed to
sleep wherever we wanted. We
remember Mark for the special way he
held us and scratched us behind our ears,
and the ultimate: Giving us some tuna
right out of the can.
-All of Mark’s cats: Teddy, Kamas, Chelsea,
Vashon, Riley, Ashley, Marie, and Milena.

82. Love
I have no patience with love
It gives and takes so completely
God help us though
Lest we be without it
For without its fullness
We are exiled to its loss
-Mark Perez
83. Mark would never have imagined that his voicemail message
would predict the platform for today’s celebration of his life. His
voicemail greeting was:
“Please leave a message and let technology bring us together.”
And here we are. Mark leaves us all a legacy of kindness and an
understanding of how important friendships can be and how
important it was to him.
Mark you are appreciated and missed. Thank you for everything!

No clever lines just words of praise
You’ve made it thus far to this phase
Take a deep breath here we go
You’ve more the ebb and less the flow
You’ve got to watch your sleep at night
To counteract your aging plight
Take vitamins and ginseng root
Your best friend’s fiber what a hoot
Don’t drink or smoke, have any fun
Remember: tans say too much sun
Oh what the hell, don’t be so clever
God knows we all can’t live forever
All the best despite your age
Take a deep breath, turn the page
