Micro-Degrees und Badges: Begriffliches
− Micro-Degrees (Microcredentials) “Microcredentials can be seen as part of a trend
toward modularity and stackability in higher
education, the idea being that each little piece of an
education can be consumed on its own or can be aggregated
with other pieces up to something larger.” (Class Central)
“A digital badge is an online representation of a skill
you've earned.” (Open Badges Homepage)
“Open Badges are verifiable, portable digital badges with
embedded metadata about skills and achievements. They
comply with the Open Badges Specification and are
shareable across the web.” (Open Badges Homepage)

Launch: Open Badges (Mozilla Foundation)
“Mozilla's Open Badges
Infrastructure (OBI) provides the
open, core technology to support an
ecosystem of badges. It is a standard
that has been designed to support a
broad range of different badge issuers,
and allow any user to earn badges
across different issuers, web sites and
experiences, then combine them into a
single collection tied to their identity. “

Audrey Watters, Hack Education, 15. September 2011:
„Why Badges?“
“It seems to me that as the education system
faces the challenges of a changing workforce,
one that requires skill-sets that may or may not
be reflected in certificates from these
traditional (academic or corporate) programs,
that someone is going to become the new
certifying agency. Will it be LinkedIn? Will
it be Pearson? Will it be Kaplan? Will it
be Chegg? (I'm serious. Think about it. That's
where they're all headed.)”

„Analysis of 450 MOOC-Based Microcredentials Reveals
Many Options But Little Consistency”

„… this analysis points to a
lack of consistency among
microcredentials, making it
difficult to compare them or
interpret their significance,
for prospective learners and
employers alike.“

“Today, we are taking a huge step towards becoming the
“University of Silicon Valley”. ...
With more than 75,000 Nanodegree program graduates
and over 200 industry partners, the Nanodegree program
is well on its way to becoming a de-facto standard for
hiring and corporate training in the tech industry. ...
At Udacity, we think of the Nanodegree program as a new
“fourth degree.” The three common university
degrees — the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD — have
been with us for more than six-hundred years! ...”

„EY people will be able to display their
badges on their social media channels.
Information about badge verification and
additional context about the earned skill can
be accessed via these social media channels in
one click, and this information will be
accessible to everyone.
The badges will also help match EY people
with relevant projects and engagements
within the organization, based on verified
skills.”

„Digitale Kompetenznachweise für lebenslanges Lernen”
„Angesichts der neuen (non-)formalen und informellen Bildungsmöglichkeiten in Zeiten
der Digitalisierung (u. a. Online Kurse, Online Communities, Online Ressourcen), stellt sich
die Frage, wie die Ergebnisse der Kompetenzentwicklung auch aus digitalen und
informellen Lernsettings sichtbar gemacht werden können (HFD, 2018).“
