3. JA BizTown Teaches Financial Literacy
The Junior Achievement Association (JA) believes the potential of young people is one of the
country’s greatest assets. JA’s elementary school programs help set children up for success by
teaching the fundamentals of business and economics. Students in grades four through six can
participate in JA BizTown, a popular program that combines classroom learning with a “hands on”
visit to a simulated community. After completing teacher-led classroom sessions, students take a
daylong visit to an interactive simulated community, where they gain practical experience in areas
such as working in a bank, running a business, or voting for a mayor. After the trip, a debriefing
provides a valuable opportunity for students to discuss and reflect on what they learned.
