People all grow up in different places, around different people, under different circumstance and,
all of these cause different effects on their lives. People are who they are today because of the
experiences that they faced. Until I was a teenager, it was always just my mom and I. I never met
my "dad", not even from day one. I never was able to get to know him, or see him, but I did have a
mom. I faced the odds of becoming the stereotypical kid with a single parent that went down the
wrong path, but I never did. Life caused me to have a single mother that has made me the strong
person that I am today. Watching my mother live from pay check to pay check when I was young
was difficult. It was always hard for my mom to keep up with other parents but, she still somehow
managed to get me everything I wanted, and more. Even though I was too young to understand, I
could feel the stress, and the struggles my mom faced every day. She was only 20 years old when
I was born and, because of that she had no choice but to grow up fast. At such a young age, I saw
the effects of being a single parent, and the ways it changed my mom. She not only had to be a
young mother but, she had to find a way to replace the void of a father, or a father figure in my
life. My mom was strong, independent and courageous. Growing up watching her live her dreams

Single Parent Struggle
For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different.
Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become
more prevalent. In today's society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and
successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows
upon all human beings. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents
versus children raised by both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents? Does a young
boy need a father figure around? Does the government provide help for single parents? What role do
step–parents and step–siblings play? With much speculation, this topic has become a very intriguing
argument. What people must understand is that properly raising a child does not rely on the
structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these
children as they learn to mature. Children of single parents can be just as progressive with
emotional, social and behavioral skills as those with two parents.
People claim that the only way for children to gain full emotional and behavioral skills is to be

After what seemed like an eternity they finally came, we hopped into the ambulance and sped off
to the ER. They stripped him down to nothing but his diaper and helped cool him off with a wet
washcloth until we arrived at the hospital. After waiting for what seemed like forever, the doctor
came to check him and diagnosed that the reason he had this seizure was because in just a short
time he went from being a normal kid to having a such a high temperature that his body reacted in
quite a frightening and scary way. They gave him a shot of Motrin and we waited until his fever

more common in today's world. Since 1995 the American family structure for children ages fourteen
to eighteen consists of forty–two percent living in a first marriage family with both parents,
twenty–two percent living in a second marriage step–family, twenty–one percent living in a single
parent, divorced or separated family, six percent living in a single parent never married family and
three percent living in a single parent widowed family. This is an extremely scary statistic

health issues. The child will not be able to do what he wants because he will be afraid to socialize
with other children. Second, a child with a single parent can compare their selves to the other
children who have married parents. A child may feel envious about not having a father/mother to
guide him/her. According to Paul R. Amato, "Children living with single parents are exposed to
more stressful experiences and circumstances than being children living with continuously married
parents." This statement proves that single parents are having a hard time raising their children.
Lastly, the children living with a single parent can have a hard time expressing their feelings.
Children who don't see or feel the act of love between his/her parent can have a hard time
expressing their feelings with other person. Due to unseen acts of love, the child may be confused

Abstract Being a single parent is an overwhelming task, nevertheless it yields greater benefits; with
persistence and dedication. A strong bond is developed between the parent and the child/ children.
It is a desire and heartbeat of everyone I to have a traditional family; wherein both the mother and
father are fully involved in the lives of their children. In this all different roles and various levels of

A further research with emphasis on psychology in understanding the effecting on single parent has
shown that there has been an increase in the percentage of children born outside marriage (41%)
compared to thirty years ago (17%). According to Dr. Keith Ablow of Fox News, he thought "the
number is on the increase and does not seem to be changing for the better for many reasons
including the fact that attention has not been paid much on the need for independence forgetting
sexual fulfillment leading to the sporadic increase of divorce rate and marriage neglect. Dr. Keith
cited that most often the children are left with the mother with little attention or support from the
father. This has coursed depression and behavior disturbance in many homes. "Children are left
with unresolved and unanswered questions which they could not receive answers to when raised

The social deviance that interests me is single parenting, one who chose to have a child out of
wed–lock. The stigma attached to being a single parent is rising anew. Many media commentators
blame America's uptrend in violence and other social problems on family breakdown – on single
parents. This stigma is based on myths and stereotypes that have been promoted by half–truths and,
often, by prejudiced viewpoints. Many in our society still regard single parenthood as a unwelcome

Therefore, because I chose to raise my children alone......society blames me for the decline in
social order. The two parent families is still compared as the traditional family formation and
contribute to a healthy and successful society. I recently saw on TV an interview with Ann
Coulter on the talk show The View ....she blames many of society's problems on single moms. She
goes on to say that our jails are filled with the offspring of single moms. To accuse single moms of
being responsible for all society's problems is absolutely crazy. There are many reasons relationships
end, and when there are kids involved usually the bulk – if not all – of the responsibility of raising
the kids is assumed by the mom. We single moms should be applauded and not attacked for this.
Sure, there are some women that decide to have a baby on their own with no man in the picture,
but can you blame them? It is hard to find a decent man who also wants to raise a family. Even
when you do there are no guarantees he will stick around for the long haul. Nevertheless, single
fathers have biological link or legal status as a non–custodial parent. What that actually means is
