Projects are often unique, as they respond
to the specific goals and aspirations of the
project leader.
The construction of a new building, for
example, requires many different people to
work together towards one common goal.
However, it is very likely that the team will
be made up of people from many different
companies, geographies and backgrounds.
Project management requires specific skills,
knowledge, tools and techniques to be
applied in order to ensure that the project
goes ahead, and that the finished product
meets the client’s requirements.
A project manager must have excellent or-
ganisational skills so they can maximise the
project’s resource, and it is of equal impor-
tance that they have strong interpersonal
skills to get the most out of the team they
are working with. Communicating, negoti-
ating and making good decisions in a pres-
surised environment are all essential skills
for an effective project manager.
