What you need to know.
 Archaeologists study artefacts .

 Artefacts are objects found from
the past that give clues to historical
 living.

 Archaeologists dig at sites where
people from the past left evidence
 about the way they lived.
 Good places for archaeological sites
 are...

 Burial Chambers

 Rubbish heaps

 Old buildings
It is very important
that the archaeological
dig is carried out
properly.
 1st They remove a top layer of vegetation... e.g. Grass.

 2nd They make a map or plan.

 3rd They make a grid and mark it with numbers or
  letters.
 4th Each dig is then dug out very ,very
  ,very carefully
 They use trowels, brushes and
  buckets...they even use toothbrushes
  to remove muck from artefacts/objects
they find...they could be priceless, so
  no messing!
 5th They mark the map were an item
was found, place it in a bag and then
send it to be dated by scientists....
3 types of dating....

Stratigraphy

Carbon Dating

Pollen Analysis
 Stratigraphy –

The lower down it is the older it could be....

 Carbon dating –

The less carbon contained in the plant or animal the
                longer the older they are.

 Pollen analysis –

Pollen grains can be found after thousands of years and
  are studied by science.
1. Name the two types of historical sources .
2. What is meant by bias? Give an example.
