in Project Management'.
NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Project Management
Institute (PMI), the world's leading not-for-profit professional
association for the project management profession, announces that its
biennial PMI Research Conference will be held 16-19 July 2006 at Centre
Mont-Royal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

This year's conference theme is "New Directions in
Project Management." World-class experts in project management,
including researchers, academics, practitioners and consultants, will
gather to discuss the state of project management and to chart its
future. Sixty reviewed papers will be presented by 18 invited and 42
proffered speakers, covering six topic areas:

- Learning
Plenary speakers for this year's conference are: Robert G.
Cooper, PhD, president of the Product Development Institute Inc. and
creator of the Stage- Gate process for new product development, speaking
on the topic "Winning at New Products: Pathways to Profitable
Innovation;" Bent Flyvbjerg, PhD, professor of planning at the
Department of Development and Planning at Aalborg University, Denmark,
and an expert on megaprojects and risk, speaking on the topic "From
Nobel Prize to Project Management: Getting Risks Right;" and Hans
J. Thamhain, PhD, PMP, who specializes in technology-based project
management, speaking on the topic "Managing Teams in Complex
Project Environments." Plenary speakers will present each morning
of the conference following breakfast.
The opening reception takes place Sunday, 16 July, along with other
networking opportunities including morning breakfasts on Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday, and evening receptions.
In addition, the PMI Research Achievement Award will be presented
3. the evening of Monday, 17 July. The PMI Research Achievement Award,
instituted in 2003, recognizes and honors an individual(s) who has
advanced the concepts, knowledge and/or practices of project management
through professionally conducted and authored project management
research. An awards reception will follow the ceremony later that
evening.
For the first time ever, the PMI Bookstore will be on location at
the conference, offering a variety of publications ranging from project
management bestsellers to exam preparation resources and professional
development titles. Attendees will be able to make purchases at the
event, or place an order to have books shipped after the conference.
