Christmas in Ireland
The majority of the Irish are Catholic, that's why the Christmas traditions are strongly influenced by this
confession. One of the most unique traditions of the Christmas decorations in Ireland are candles.
Placing a large candle in the driveway, or any window,this candle is lit by the youngest person in the
family on Christmas Eve.This is a symbol to welcome the holy family and can only be turned off by a girl
or woman called Maria.
In the Christmas dinner usually served duck, pheasant, or the famous potato stuffed goose with apple
sauce; more traditional dessert of the night is the plum pudding, a steamed sweet made and served with
a sauce made of butter and brandy.
