The unemployment rate in
Colombia in the third quarter of
2010, reached 11.5%, 0.7% less
than the same period in 2009,
reported yesterday by the
National Statistics Department
(DANE)
In September alone, the national
average of that figure reached
10.6 percent, down 1.6 percent
from the same month last year.
In the July-September quarter
had 19'342 000 employed and
unemployed was 2.503 million,
whereas a year ago in the same
period, more than 18'321 2'542
000 000 were unemployed and
seeking employment.
In September this year,
meanwhile, just over 19'723, 000
people were employed, while
2'335 000 were unemployed,
compared to the same month of
2009, when 18'279 2'531 000 000
were employed and looking for a
job .
The Colombian economy has
improved in recent years,
companies are linked through
their work for many people to
avoid unemployment in Colombia
and helps combat informality of
employment in large cities.
I think there is still much room
for improvement because
Colombia still has a relatively
high unemployment rate and has
a large percentage of poverty.
Companies and government
should encourage more
employment and government to
reduce corporate taxes to
promote employment
