1. Reasons to Get a Prenuptial Agreement

Although the idea of a prenuptial agreement does not usually go hand-in-hand with the romance of an
engagement and wedding, it is a must for many people. Here is a list of people who should consider
signing a prenuptial agreement:
• Those who plan to quit their job to be homemakers and raise children. In this instance, a prenuptial
agreement can prevent the person who gives up a job from suffering adverse economic effects in the
case of divorce.
• Those who have been previously married. Often, people who are marrying for the second time have
loved ones and assets from a prior marriage. A prenuptial agreement can prevent the new spouse from
cutting off the former family from finances in the event of death.
• People who are marrying a partner with a large amount of debt. A prenuptial agreement can prevent
the spouse from having to pay the partner’s debt.
• People who are wealthier or earn more money than their partner. A prenuptial agreement will help
ensure that your partner is marrying you for the right reasons. It can also put a reasonable cap on
potential alimony.
