1. IB Year 2
First Project 2012
Mr. Dorofy
Art in My Style
The Problem:
You will create a work of art that illustrates what you would consider to
be your style as an artist while showcasing your proficiency and ability to work in
your preferred medium. For the sake of this assignment you will begin by
analyzing the work you’ve created over the past year as an IB Art Student in
search of a unifying style.
Part ONE What is Style
In your IWB you will examine the concept of “style” as it pertains to artwork.
Please include the following in your sketchbook:
• Define “style” using at least 1 page
• Choose 3 different artists who have a recognizable style and describe
their style using a page in your sketchbook (one page per artist). You may
have to look at different art movements and rely on some artists that you
have learned about in the past to succeed here.
• Look at the work in your portfolio and find what you would consider to be
your 3 most successful works of art. Using another two pages in your
sketchbook take digital photos of your work and analyze it based on
similarities, strengths, and any other unifying factors. Be sure to list
mediums used, describe the process of creating each work of art, and
state why you chose this piece for analysis.
DUE September 17th “BD” at the beginning of class
Part Two The Planning and Preparation
Now that you have determined some unifying factors in your artwork and
learned about the concept of style you will develop a plan for your studio project.
In your IWBs do the following:
• Create a list of style attributes that you would like to include in your work
• Brainstorm concepts for your piece: what subject matter will you work
with? What will the main idea be? What is the message (if any) in your
work? Etc…
• Determine a composition through creating a series of thumbnail sketches
(A series means at least 5)
• Select one element and one principle to focus on in your work and clearly
describe your intentions in your sketchbooks prior to moving on to your
final piece
