UP SERIES: JASMINE
As told by Jasmine Mitcham and Family/Friends
WHO IS JASMINE MITCHAM?

                I find myself
                   contemplating the answer
                   to this question often. And
I have yet to come up with
                   an answer I am satisfied
                   with. Throughout this
                   presentation I will present
to you the people who help
shape me and where I plan
to be 36 years from now.
                   Then you can decide who
                   you feel Jasmine Mitcham
                   is.
IF SOMEONE ASKED YOU TO
DESCRIBE ME, WHAT WOULD YOU
SAY?
 Mom: “She’s bright, intelligent, a forward
thinker, intuitive… you’re not pretentious. The
kind of person who, if they want to do something,
they’ll do it. A person couldn’t talk you into doing
anything you didn’t want to do.”
 Grandmother: “She's black and beautiful and
smart. She's a good listener and uhh… lets see.
Very respectful, not selfish, very caring, and
  thoughtful.”
 Mykel: “You're awesome, kind ,and awesome
  looking.”
 Mycah: “You're nice, you're amazing, you're
  helpful, pretty, and creative.”
WHY ARE YOU FRIENDS WITH ME?
 Marjani: “So Jasmine I like you because you are
respectable, cool, laid back, and well cultured. You have a
lot of that not so common sense and we have a lot in
common and it’s not so hard to not like someone that you
have so much in common with.”
 Marcus: “I like you because you’re down to earth, you’re
very chill, and you make very good conversation. You’re
intelligent too and I value your opinion”
 Remi: “You’re easy to converse with and we never run out
of topics. You’re understanding, and you’re TRILL.”
 Donia: “I’m friends with Jasmine because I personally
never met someone who was so comfortable in her own
skin, fashionable, understanding, and caring at the same
time and not too self centric.”
WHY ARE YOU IN A RELATIONSHIP
WITH
ME?
 Eric: “I tend to find myself attracted to girls who
are different…a little on the hippie side. I'm
attracted to the way you think and express
yourself. You're different and independent. I am
in a relationship with you because I like being
with someone who likes me as much as I like
them back, and the way you express love for me.
We can sit down and not say anything and still
enjoy each other. You're a friend but at the same
time you're more than that. I can hang out with
you but at the same time I can talk to you about
things that I couldn’t others. I love you more
than I could ever love a friend… You make my
    chest feel all weird.”
 I chose to study at St.
    John’s because I
    received the most
    Financial Aid and it was
    in New York.
 My college experience
    has been a significant
    life experience thus far.
 I stay in campus in
    Carey Hall, but I would
    like to live off campus
    my junior year.
    Preferably in Brooklyn.
COMMUNITY
 It’s hard to pin point my
    community now and how
it will be in the future.
 I’m originally from San
    Diego, CA
 I now reside in Queens,
    NY
 I plan to live in Brooklyn
    until college is finished
 In the future I plan to
    travel so my community
    will constantly be
    changing.
21

 By the age of 21 I plan on finishing my four
years at St. John’s and graduating with a B.A.
in Psychology and a B.S. in Television and
     Film Production.
28
 By the age of 28 I plan
  on being married and
  possibly starting a
  family.
 I will either have
  attainted my PhD or
  still continuing on the
  path to do so.
35
 By 35 I will have my
  PhD in Psychology.
 I will have at least one
  child.
 Be in the process of
  finding my dream
  home.
 Working as a Child
  Psychologist and
  creating documentaries
  based on social issues.
42
•By 42 at the latest I would like
to
be living in my dream home.
Some
Place surrounded by trees and
 near a body of water.
49
 All of my children should
    be raised by now.
 I should have my travel
    spots mapped out for
    retirement.
 I expect to be:
     established in the Psych
        community.
     Created at least two
        films.
     Begin writing a book
        based on the lives and
        experiences of my
        mother, grandmother,
        and aunts.
     Begin piecing together a
        poetry book.
56
 RETIRED! I would to
  be able to retire from
  the Psych field at this
  age and spend my time
  traveling with my
  husband and creating
  films.
 I should be a grandma
  by now and an
  awesome one at that.
