OBJECTIVE
To lead an educational team striving for excellence, inclusiveness, and engagement
as part of the learning experience for each child
Educational Experience
Educational Leadership Internship, Taylor Middle School, July 2014–May 2015
• Led initiative to boost student social and academic engagement through after-
school program
• Organized team of teachers to lead activities with students to promote
homework reinforcement, creative thinking, technical aptitude and social
engagement
• Coordinated services with CYFD and APS Nutritional Services to provide
support
• Facilitated meetings about implementation of the grant
• Organized two groups of study – students in after-school, students not in
after-school
• Monitored attendance and led recruitment to bolster the program
• Developed and implemented incentives for attendance and participation
• Analyzed outcomes in categories of correlative factors such as low grades,
attendance, behavioral incidents and attitudes
• Presented findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including APS
administrators
The conclusion was that after-school programs promote engagement that can extend
into high school years. The key factor was belonging. Students who gained a solid
sense of inclusiveness through the after-school problem had fewer behavioral issues,
better attendance and higher grades.
