3. Early Life
Jose Reyes was born to Jose and Rosa
Manuel and he has a younger sister named
Meosote. He didn’t get interested in baseball
until he was 10 (He went to his fathers
games) and he started taking baseball
seriously when he was 12/13. Since he came
from a poor family, he couldn’t afford a glove
so he played shortstop barehanded or with a
mitt made out of a milk carton. By the time
he was 15, everyone considered him to be
the best player in his town, without a doubt.
4. The Start of his Career
In the summer of 1999, he went to a tryout camp for the
Mets that was held not far from his house. He was noticed by a
scout and the Mets offered him a contract, which he signed on
August 16, 1999. He was sent to the Kingsport Mets of the Rookie-
level Appalachian League for the 2000 season.
5. Music
In addition to baseball,
Reyes also owns a record
label called EL7 Music
(the name was inspired
by his uniform number).
It was created to explore
his interest in making
reggaeton music. He
currently has 2 songs,
both released in 2011.
6. Reyes was the recipient of many awards
and accomplished many achievements
