13 students of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) went ‘gap packing’ during the semester break in January 2012. Campus trip to K’ ARTS University, Yonsei University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Soongsil University was an eye opening experience for us in learning the undergraduate student system in South Korea. We also surely would really miss hospitality provided by StayKorea . Last but not least, many thanks to Seoul Red Cat and Julia Tour who ensured our trip went smoothly.

3. > After the
long walk
along Yong-
meori, we
took a break
to have our
lunch at the
Korean Style
Food
Restaurant.
> Our main menu was saengseon jjigae (생선찌개) fish stew
After lunch, we continued our exploration of Jeju Island to the Columnar Joint also known as Jusangjeollidae.
4. >Jusangjeolli Cliffs refer to the set of blackish, rock pillars of rectangular or hexagonal shapes on the east coast of
Jungmun Tourist Resort. As if carved by stonemasons, the pillars are evidence of nature’s awesome power. Most
commonly expressed as vertical columnar jointing, the formations are created via sudden cooling of lava that
shrinks in mass. The sight of waves crashing against the columns is both serene and beautiful. On days with rough
weather, waves can rise as high as 20 meters.
5. > The columnar joint, including its vicinity, is designed as Natural Monument No.443 for its scenic value and
academic purposes.
It’s simply breathtaking! Aye aye captain!

7. > Next we went to a garden full of oranges whereby, there, we
were given the opportunity to choose and plucked the oranges
ourselves. Winter is the best time to harvest mandarins, so
farmers are busiest at this time of the year.
Mandarin is Jeju's signature fruit. We
found out that these oranges are sold in every <
local shops and tourist spots across the island.
>The owner allowed us to look around, pick the mandarin from the trees and taste how sweet the fruit is. We found
the mandarins hang on almost every branch made a beautiful background to pose on.
8. > We were enjoying fun pick our own fresh mandarin oranges ripened on the tree
These oranges are particularly helpful in cleaning the liver, and for reducing the risk of cancer, and organic
Mandarin orange farming is becoming more popular on Jeju, especially among health-conscious individuals. One
Mandarin orange provides 116% of the daily value of Vitamin C and reduces the risk of colon cancer. The peel is full
of antioxidants and phytonutrients. Organic oranges use no chemical pesticides or chemical fertilizers, making their
peels most useful for teas.
> Next we went to
observe the scenery of
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall.
9. > To reach the waterfall, we walked on a landscaped path. We walked along the subtropical path towards the
Cheonjiyeon Falls for a kilometre and abled to hear the magnificent sound of waterfalls
10. Literally, the name Cheonjiyeon
means sky (Ch'eon) connected
with land (ji). Cheonjiyeon,
meaning ‘God’s pond’, derives
its name from the legend that
the 7fairies serving the King of
Heaven came down to the pond
on stairs of cloud and bathed in
its clean waters. The clear and
deep water of Cheonjiyeon Falls
is designated as natural
monument No. 27 and is
renowned as a habitat for
mutae eels.
> We continued our exploration by going to Oedolgae Rock
(Forever Alone).Oedolgae sits not far from the shores of
Sammaebong Seougwipo City. It is an amazing rock 10
meters in circumference and 20 meters in height and is also
known as the Changgun Rock. It is surrounded by beautiful
islands such as Bum Island, Sae Island and Seonnyu (fairy)
Rock.
> Oedolgae was also a filming location in the 2003 TV drama
series, Dae Jang Guem where Hansangoong (Yang Mee
Kyung) faced her death under a false accusation while being
carried on Dae Jang Guem 's (Lee Young Ae) back.
11. > A site offering a spectacular view, Oedolgae is one of the most visited tourist sites on Jeju Island.
> Memento of the 2002 World Cup the site

We ended our day by going down the Mysterious Road. It
is called ‘Mysterious Road’ because if you point your car
downhill and put it into the neutral gear, the car moves
uphill instead of downhill. Even with our bus engine off, it
is still able to move uphill along this famous Mysterious
Road.
