2. In Quang Binh Provincein the north central coast region, about 500
km south of Hanoi lies a breathtaking natural wonder and the home of the largest cave
in the world. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2003, the remarkable Phong
Nha-Ke Bang National Park was created to protect one of the world’s largest karst
regions with +300 caves, grottoes and the limestone forest ecosystem of the Annamite
Range region.
The park derives its name from Phong Nha Cave, which contains many fascinating rock
formations, and Ke Bang forest. Phong Nha literally means “wind and teeth” and Ke
Bang describes the flora and fauna of the rainforest.
The caves are the region’s highlights, but the park has no lack of above ground
attractions. Spend a few days here to do some forest trekking, zip-lining, kayaking, and
cycling. There’s also much to learn about the rich natural, cultural and war history of
the area.
Son Trach village is the hub of the area, with many places to enjoy a cup of coffee, a
drink, or a delicious meal. The village has tons of accommodation options and transport
links to other parts of central Vietnam.
Phong Nha has become renowned as one of the most beautiful and interesting areas
of Vietnam. The most famous and developed caves in this area see up to 5000 tourists
per day in high season.
This paradise of cavernous mountains crowned by deep jungle is a part of Vietnam that
you won’t want to miss.
3. Son Trach Village
Right next to the center of the national park lies Son Trach village. It has seen an incredible boom in the last 3 years and there are
plenty of growth and construction projects to serve the increasing number of curious explorers from all around the globe.
This 3000 person village hosts many modern and well equipped accommodations to welcome guests of all ages and abilities. The
choices of transport, eateries, accommodation and tours are abundant. Son Trach village is accessible by tourist buses from the
main tourist destinations all over the Vietnam and there are also local buses (Number B4) with a direct connection to Dong Hoi.
Dong Hoi can be reached by domestic airplanes, trains or buses.
The climate is tropical and the annual average temperature is 24°C. The highest temperature is in June, July and August, with
temperatures above 28°C and the coldest months, from December to February see an average temperature of 18°C. Phong Nha-
Ke Bang is located in an area of high rainfall with the rainy season lasting from July to December. The highest amount of rainfall
occurs in September, October and November. The dry season is from January to June and the lowest rainfall is in February and
March.
The most comfortable time to come here would be from March to August, but you can visit the beauty of this place all year round.

Become an explorer...
Set in the lush jungles of Quang Binh province, which was used as a location for the 2017 film,
“Kong: Skull Island”, this natural wonder was discovered in 2016 and just recently opened up for
visitors and adventurous pioneers. What may be the 2nd largest cave in this area is approximately
17km long, and most of it is still undiscovered. Ruc Mon Cave has two entrances, each of which
offer different attractions.
Far from roaring boats and the masses, our guides will help you explore untouched jungles,
authentic minority villages, lakes, rivers and of course the dark magic inside Ruc Mon Cave. The
cave offers stunning views, impressive halls up to 250m high, rare formations, swimming areas and
climbing areas. A highly exclusive but all inclusive caving adventure!
There are various ways to experience this gigantic cave. For adrenaline junkies who want to get
wet, dirty, climb up and abseil the different levels inside, as well as for families, animal lovers,
hobby geologists and culture enthusiasts. All tours are supported by the local ethnic minorities who
will host us around Ruc Mon Cave.

6. RUC MON Adventure JUNGLE TREKKING | SWIMMING | CAVING
This trip will take you through the deep jungle of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. We will take you up to the Da Deo Mountain
pass where you’ll get a beautiful view on the karst mountains. We will encounter an ethnic minority at the beautiful Yen Phu lake
with its immense diversity of animals. See the magnificent scenery chosen as a location for the recent film, “Kong: Skull Island”,
while you trek through the thick jungle until the mouth of the cave. At the entrance of the cave you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch
prepared by locals.
The mouth of this end of the Ruc Mon Cave (the cave has two entrances) is home to a blue lagoon, where the turquoise water
is inviting you to jump in. Discover the wonders of the cave and its creatures by swimming and wading through the crystal clear
water. On the way in we will be swimming against a light current but on the way out we’ll let the current take us a float out. There
will be some climbing and hiking, depending on the season.
After all those amazing experiences in the cave we will trek back slowly to Yen Phu Lake where a hot shower awaits. Time to
enjoy the green jungle and to contemplate about the day’s achievements, lessons and impressions before the van takes us
back to Phong Nha.
