suddenly in the shot, before disappearing

A pitch black screen and then there is a crane
shot going down, leading into what looks like
green smoke, with thunder and lightening. A
title saying ‘A Parkes/MacDonald Production’
appears, and then disappears. It then follows
into a track to the right where it leads over
the chimneys and tops of the buildings in
London. Another title states ‘A Zanuck
Company Production’ and then disappears. It
then shows a roof with a window in it, and it
zooms in through the window, showing an
isolated armchair. A splat of blood then goes
on the window, followed by the title ‘A Tim
Burton Film’.

A cut to a mid shot of a picture surrounded by
an old frame. It then starts to fade out. Text
appears saying ‘Johnny Depp’ and then
disappears. As there is a crane down another
bit of text saying ‘Helena Bonham Carter’
appears. As it disappears, the camera follows
a trail of blood dripping down the armchair. It
then flows down the arm of the chair, with
another text saying ‘Alan Rickman’. The
camera continues craning down to a lion’s
head carved into the arm. The blood then
drips on to a cog, and then it starts to spin.

There is a cut to a horizontal cog, which the
blood then drips down on to. Once the blood
has hit the cog a couple of times, it starts to
spin, leaving a further trail of blood. When the
cog stops, there is slight crane down and the

There is a cut to a collection of cogs that are
all working together and spinning. The blood
flows between the cogs and then stick to
them, as there is contact.

There is then a dolly camera, that moves
forward quickly between two cogs, leading
over floorboards, and to a trapdoor. The
trapdoor suddenly opens, plunging the
camera into total darkness.

From a pitch-black screen, red letters drop
down on to the screen, the letters forming

The camera looks as if it is falling down
quickly, as there are certain patches of light.
As the text vanishes, the camera continues
with the movement, until it looks like the
camera has appeared out of a grinder, where
meat soon follows through the holes. The
camera continues to zoom out, and then a
crane follows the meat down. A text then
appears on the right hand side stating
‘Timothy Spall’. The meat then turns into
blood and drips down into various puddles of
blood, as the titles disappear. The camera
follows the trail around and the titles ‘and
Sacha Baron Cohen’ appear before the
camera follows the spiral.

oven door shuts. Then the titles ‘Based on the
musical by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh
Wheeler. Originally staged by Harold Prince’
appear and disappear very quickly. There is
then a crane shot that is going slightly down
and to the left, where we see a sewer with
rats and a trail of blood running down the
sewer. Like the other title when it appears
quickly and disappears quickly, the same
happens with the text ‘From an adaptation by
Christopher Bond’. The crane shot then
continues along the sewer as another text
stating ‘Music supervised and conducted by
Paul Gemignani. Orchestrated by Jonathon
Tunick’ quickly comes and goes. The camera
then stops over a drain, which we see the
blood run in to.
