3. THE 5 THINGS I LEARNT FROM LOGO ANALYSIS
1. Simplicity is the main thing I have learnt to having a successful app logo. By over
cluttering a logo can just make it look messy and un appealing against a simple crisp vector
logo. The reason for this is because these logos are going to be seen on very small screens
and are easier for the eye to look at.
2. framing is something that is included in a lot of the well known logos. it gives the pictures
a 3D effect and makes them stand out to those that don't have a boarder. By having a
boarder it gives the illusion of layers giving the aspect of things closer or further away from
you and the illusion of something coming out of the logo.
3. By using complimentary colors this goes well with a two colour way system and is
attracted well to the eye.
4. A focal point for a logo is key! either using bold text or a big image of a main character
within the game or implementing a mechanic gives the buyer an idea of what the games
about.
5. By using leading lines and gradients of colour to represent light, this can be another great
way to lead the eye to a focal point within an app logo. some of the most downloaded apps
use this simple technique.
4. MARKET SEGMENTATION
Our game falls in between
the high end of both casual
and mainstream gamers.
From past games such as
flappy bird and temple run
that involve the same
mechanics and goals as our
game it is clear to see this
would fall into those
categories. Our game is
basic to learn and easy to
play to some extent
therefore it reaches out to a
large audience of many ages
that are able to play Mr.
Monocle.
5. MARKET SEGMENTATION
Our game is mostly made up of
Achievers as it has a game score
Count that shows when you’ve beaten
your previous high score. Some are
socializers as it could become
competitive with your friends and in
the future we could allow the game to
link up to social media sites like
Facebook and Twitter. in order to bring
explores into are game we would have
to include puzzles, pieces of maps and
new worlds to explore within the
game. because we only have one level
developed and a basic story line
behind it there isn't much to explore
within Mr. Monocle.
6. IPHONE MOCK UP ANALYSIS
1.sound cloud - this app would relate to our game as it would be a source for all
types of music to listen too. as our game includes music there player might be
interested in music genres.
2.Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Skype - this app would relate to our game as it
gives the player an opportunity to share with the world about the game, share
pictures and to converse with friends and relatives on who has a higher score in
the game.
3. YouTube - this app would relate to my game because it would help people to
search for tutorials or game play for advice and help.
4. Nike running and Nike fuel band - the game involves running and jumping which
means that the player could run as a hobby. this app allows you to plan your routes
and keep track of the progress you make physically al through your phone.
5. flappy bird, temple run, sonic dash and angry birds - All of these games include
similar mechanics to our game therefore if someone was interested in downloading
our game chances are they would play these as well.
6. eBay - our game is retro and in a classic 8bit style, the player might be interested
in old gaming memorabilia bought and sold on eBay.
7.vine - our game is very comical in some ways and this app is based around
comedy and sharing with the world these little 8second sketches people have
produced.
8. Netflix - this app has a range of films with multi genres including the one in our
game, comedy and animation.
9. skype - the player could use this app to Skype his friends and family to let them
no about the game and to promote why he likes playing it, they could also compare
scores via Skype whilst playing the game
11. SELECTED APP LOGO
I want to take this design but re
do it in a cartoon vector image
on illustrator. I will make the pig
larger so It fills more dead
space and possibly add a
border to make my logo ‘pop
out’ more. I'm still indecisive
about keeping the coins in or
not, I will decide in the process
when making the logo.
12. MY TWO GREY SCALE DESIGNS
Here are my two grey scale designs. One
is a more simplified version with just Mr.
monocle and the gradient background
including the lines leading from the
center of the image, the other one is the
same but includes hills at the bottom of
the design. I feel the simple version is
more appealing and the better choice to
take further. I feel this way because from
my research I found that less is more and
if I can avoid cluttering up my image I
will.
13. DIFFERENT COLOUR WAY EXAMPLES
Here are the chosen colors for my colour wheel. I felt these would fit into
my design the best. I drafted up 4 2 way color designs for the
background in order to see what worked better than other colour. I came
to the conclusion that the green and the yellow background caught my
eye better than the other two. The green represents the grass and
background in the game ad the yellow represents the coins collected
within the game.
17. RESPONSE TO MY FEEDBACK FOR T-SHIRT
DESIGNS
T-shirt design 1
I feel that from the feedback it was mixed responses, I agree that the image on the front is maybe to basic and needs
something like a title or another image to make it more appealing and to give the person viewing the t-shirt more of an idea that
its from the game Mr. Monocle. From the feedback they liked my idea of the game over scene on the back aliening at the
bottom of the tee. I feel that's good placement but maybe transfer that idea to the front instead of the pig on its own. If I was to
choose this t-shirt for my final and improve it i would keep the 8-bit font as it fits in nicely with the theme and matches the
pixelated characters shown below it.
T-shirt design 2
The feedback was good on design two they especially like the font and style of the ‘Mr. monocle’ text. They also liked the little
top hat and monocle placed in the top right corner above the text. One thing they brought up was playing around with oculars
for the text, they felt the colour pink would attract mostly girls. in order to boost our sales we want to make it visually suitable for
both genders. One downfall to the tee was the images on the back they felt it didn’t really for in with the theme and should be
removed. intend of picking 1 t-shirt out of these two to bring forward in my final design I will be taking elements from both
designs and bring them together.
18. T-SHIRT COLOR WAYS
I choose the white and the grey
for my two final color-ways as I
feel they are the most simplest
and could be worn by both
genders. I also feel the graphics
and text stand out the best on
top of the grey and white.
23. RESPONSE TO YOU-TUBE ADVERT DRAFT
I am going to keep the cinematic shots and the gameplay, my feedback
seemed to like the concept of bringing the two together. I am also going to
get rid of the game over screen and replace it with a cinematic shot of the
pig escaping the butcher to leave the video on a high, not a low were you
see the pig is dead and the ‘game over’ screen is shown. I am not going to
start the video with a Mr. Monocle title page, I feel the frame is better at the
end as it stays in the viewers head better. The feedback was strong on the
frame were we state that the age is now available and free so I will be
keeping that, when it comes to the final story board I will use 8-bit text for the
end credits and Mr. monocle title page. for the dialogue I will use a simple
clean font that is easy to read.
27. YOUTUBE ADVERT RESEARCH – TOWER FALL
A part of our 3 main marketing ideas is producing a
YouTube advert video. Before making the final screen
saves for our video I wanted to look at a game advert
which was similar to our game and used a pixel theme.
I come across a game called tower fall in previous
research, I wanted to follow the game up and see how
they presented there game as it was very current and
used the 8-bit style. Adverts are known as ‘direct
advertising’ as its laying out for you what the game is,
what the games about and were you can download it.
I took 3 screen shots from the advert which I felt
relevant and could inspire some ideas for my own
designs.
This sort of game would be close competition for
our game as it fits a similar genre, so it was
important to note what made there adverts so
popular. I feel the depth of detail really appeals to
me and makes the game look retro but current. It
also uses 3 tone sort of colors so for the fire shot
we see only reds, yellows and oranges and for the
title screen shot we see greys dark blues and
purples. One thing I included in the story boards
was gameplay, this advert is also a great example
of how I wanted to portray the gameplay in our
own video. they show different maps and
scenarios throughout there video broken up by
title pages. if we were to go through and make our
video I would defiantly structure my video out in
the same way.
30. MARKETING PLAN
It all starts at promoting our game through web banners.
We will add these banners to related small sites that
promote other games that are similar to ours. From the
web banner there will be info on where to buy the app
and a link leading to our twitter page. Next is our twitter
feed, we will run competitions for people that re-tweet our
YouTube advert. The competition will link in to our t-shirt
design in order be in for a chance to win you must re-
tweet the advert. We will release the web banners and
twitter page first on March the 10th the advert will come
short after on the 16th of march. Then there will be a time
period between the advert and the release, this is
because it gives the internet a chance to vlog, blog and
podcast about the advert for indirect advertising. We will
release the app on the 21st of June and then the t-shirts
shortly after on the 12th of July.
