2. HUMANITYHASNO RELIGION
This discussion about humanity is
above religious debates, above political
opinions, above our traditions. It is
above everything else. It is about
morality, about ethics and about who
you are as a person, and what do you
contribute to your society.
3. Only human beings can understand the
importance of humanity and it comes as a
result of intelligence, which actually gives the
core essence to human existence. You will not
need a hefty bank account to contribute
towards humanitarian activities. All you need
is a kind heart and a willing hand.
4. If eating and having fun is only what we are
born to do then we should keep one thing in
mind; even animals can do such activity; if
God has made us humans there has to be
some reason behind it.
5. . It means caring for and helping others whenever
and wherever possible. Humanity is helping
others at times when they need that help the most,
humanity means forgetting your selfish interests
at times when others need your help. Humanity
means extending unconditional love to each and
every living being on Earth.
6. This discussion about humanity is above
religious debates, above political opinions,
above our traditions. It is above everything
else. It is about morality, about ethics and
about who you are as a person, and what do
you contribute to your society.
7. Each of us has a little “I want to save the world” in
us, our knowledge of right and wrong is innate in
us. We all want to help one another. Human
beings are like that. We want to live by each
other’s' happiness, not by each other's misery. We
don't want to hate and despise one another. In
this world there is room for everyone. And the
good earth is rich and can provide for everyone.
8. As Charlie Chaplin said in his speech, “Greed has
poisoned men's souls; has barricaded the world
with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and
bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we
have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives
abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge as
made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and
unkind. We think too much and feel too little.
More than machinery we need humanity. More
than cleverness, we need kindness and
gentleness.”
CHARLIE CHAPLIN
9. As Pakistanis we have the best example of a humanitarian
the world has ever witnessed in the form of Abdul Sattar
Edhi. He was a man who served his entire life for others
and never asked for something in return. He bathed and
buried over a thousand unclaimed bodies in a time when
selfishness and greed were at their peak and nobody
seemed to know the meaning of words like altruism and
selflessness. His charity did not discriminate based on
religion, race or gender because he believed that no
religion is higher than humanity.
ABDUL SATTAR EDHI
11. There are hundreds and thousands of examples of people
giving everything they have to help others. But what is
the point of us knowing them, if we cannot take that step
ourselves. You don’t have to run international NGOs to
be a humanitarian. Start with that little child begging on
the traffic signal. Help him. Help him get to school. Help
him get an education so that he may support his family
one day. In doing so, you not only raise that child better,
but you raise yourself. You become a better person. You
give someone reason to believe in good and do good. Rise,
rise above these boundaries and save lives, relieve
suffering, and maintain human dignity.
