- 3. • .The difference of attitudes between people of different generations, leading to a lack of understanding. • Generational gap, is a difference of opinions between one generation and another regarding beliefs, politics, or values. In today's usage, "generation gap" often refers to a perceived gap between younger people and their parents or grandparents.[1]
- 4. • Old generations often claim that they cannot understand the young people and young people often say they are misunderstood by the older one. • This accumulation of differences and ideas between people born at different time periods causes conflict and complicates communication creating a “gap”
- 5. • For example, a T.V drama was watched by the people of three different generations - children, their parents and their grandparents. The drama was about a boy and a girl who wanted to marry each another. Now the message was perceived differently by all three generations. The grandparents firmly suggested that parents should never allow children to make such an important decision themselves and leave it entirely to their parents’ discretion. The father and the mother were of the opinion that the boy and the girl should at least involve their parents in this decision. If the parents don’t agree, then they should not marry. Children were of the view that if their parents don’t agree, they should go for a better option - court marriage.

- Have you ever had the feeling that people older than you are hard to understand? Or, have you felt like people from younger generations just don't get it? Maybe you find it easier to connect with people who are closer to your age than those who are older or younger than you. Generation gap occurs between parents and children or between in-laws. It also occurs between teachers Between every father and son, there is a gap of at least twenty years. This gap makes the father and the son stand poles apart. The father looks at one thing from one angle and the son views it from an entirely different angle. .
- The difference of attitudes between people of different generations, leading to a lack of understanding. This social problem is not so new. It has been faced by different generations of all ages. Nowadays, however, it has attained an enormous magnitude. The modern world is moving very fast because of new day-to-day inventions and technologies Parents have a common complain that their children after a certain age tend to disrespect them. They look for more freedom and enjoy the company of their friends rather than staying at home. These all are the changes when the kids grow from teenagers to adulthood
- . Old generations often claim that they cannot understand the young people and young people often say they are misunderstood by the older one. Parents are inclined to think that their children will misuse modern technology, (computers, mobiles, internet, etc.) and that it would lead to their destruction. Children, on the other hand, consider their parents to be outdated. So in such a fast paced world of technology, parents find it difficult to keep up with the maturity of thought or quick-wittedness of their children. Consequently, both parents and children find it hard to understand each other’s point of views . In earlier times two or three generations live in the same lifestyle and environments as the development was so slow. But today, nearest past is very much outdated and the world is more advanced each day. Parents do not even know many of the modern technologies and equipments children use. This accumulation of differences and ideas between people born at different time periods causes conflict and complicates communication creating a “gap”
- This is the time when they want to be treated as big but the parents still consider them small. They want to take their own decisions but can’t because parents are there to take any important decisions regarding their children the West, this gap is growing tremendously. Children are normally not bothered about what their parents think or feel, but in the East, both parents and children are trying to bridge this gap. Our religion, culture and the way our children are being brought up play a vital role in keeping both parents and children close the parties intact. The problem of generation gap creates negative consequences and the two parties already began to move away each other emotionally. In the extreme cases the parties even decide to abandon each other. The children decide to leave the house of the parents due to lack of emotional space constantly. The daughter-in-law may provoke her husband to abandon her mother-in-law for disability to cope up unreasonable demands.
- .Due to the difference in bringing up, their thinking differ from each other. Physciological and behavorial attitudes are formed on the basis of circumstances one goes thro. When the people of the different generations meet each other they often are induced to difference in opinion, communication gap, conflicts etc. Parents often think that their ways are better and that they are more wiser and experienced and can make the best choices for their children annd sometimes they are right too because all they want is the betterment of their children and they’ve been thro the times and know the world better yet the younger ones always think that they are smarter which they are and their ways are more accurate. This thinking that both the generations are better from each other creates a gap and misunderstanding which leads to bad relations.
- Due to the lack of communication and understanding many families are dissatisfied and are producing an atmosphere of conflict. The children just think that they are pressurized and restricted from doing things they like and then…… they try to find out different ways of doing what they want secretly which often leads them to the wrong path. When they do not get attention from their parents they find it somewhere else like with their friends and consider their friends to be more understandable and co operating they consider them more important than their familiesbecause their ideas and ways of tackling things is same.. They start spending more time with their friends and slowly part away. And consider obligations to everything their parents say which produces disagreements and hatred .
- This problem leads to communication gap and the two parties are unable to understand the channel for communication. Due to emotional arguments over silly matters and conflicts began to occur often frequently. The peace of the house is disturbed. The atmosphere is changing and also the needs and therefore the parents take time to adjust according to the present scenario but the children are just not ready to listen to them they disrespect their values and traditions. For example Many parents do the mistake of comparing their age with that of parent's when he/she was in the same age. When a parent was in fifteen, he/she might need a bicycle, but their child of same age may ask for a motor bike. Both the parties
- Parents shouldn’t demands higher than the limits of the child or push the child beyond their abilities and children shouldn’t demand things that their parents are not capable of because This, in future, makes the child going astray from the lifestyle and status of parents
- They should purposely spend time with each other whenever they are free. This activity creates an emotional bondage very quickly. This increasing gap is a common scenario in all the families and the parents should take the initiative to decrease the gap and take steps for it. Instead of arguing with your children and avoiding the discussion it will be good that you take a step forward and talk to EACH OTHER. Look not all traditions are wrong this has become a common problem to criticize the old ways and to adopt the newer ones so children also need to understand the importance of the decisions of their parents. . Realization and a high level of understanding are the best solutions to combat the problem. - Both the parties should realize the theory of limitations and both of them cannot be satisfied as per their wants. Nobody in the world is satisfied according to their wants because human wants are only unlimited.
