The other day I was getting towards the end of a mix, only to realize that
I had slathered reverb and delay all over the song. After spending hours
sculpting the perfect space, it had come to dominate the song.
So, I started thinking about the rules and guidelines for using reverb and
delay in a mix. As I searched the Internet, I found tons of information,
and no clear consensus.

I realized that the experts are actually just like you and me. That is to
say they have preferences and their own way of doing things. So, if you
want to be an expert, you should probably get some experience in the
field, mess about with delays and reverbs, and then adopt an
uncompromising opinion on the “rules of creating depth with time-based
effects.”

Creating contrast and texture with reverb? Is that a good idea?
Sometimes it is. Sometimes, you just want to keep things nice and
smooth. Take the suggestions and throw them in the blender with the
rest of the stuff we find here.
